Here's a plot of the first few days of registration in comparison to previous years.
This year is a different shape because of the split District/Regional registration starts, and the lack of dependable total team counts for the first 36 hours of Regional registration.

It's looking like a pretty good year for FRC teams overall, 2017 early registration was up ~25% over 2016 numbers.
District team starting registration alone was better than all 2012 starting registration (Districts + Regionals).

Re: Registration 2017

I always love seeing those graphs, Mark... But with registration starting 2 weeks later this year because of the server issues, should we still show them all starting at the same time? My thinking is that the extra two weeks meant more teams had started up for the fall, figured out their finances, gotten grants, etc than we normally have on day 1, so it may not be a fair comparison to previous years. And looking forward to next year, it may make next year's start up look slow for the first couple of weeks.

Re: Registration 2017

A valid point. Things are really skewed this year.

So using actual dates 2017 is behind 2016 by about 7% as of this morning 9am.
  • Oct 10, 2016 = 2507
  • Oct 10, 2017 = 2327

P.S.
My rookie team from last year still isn't registered because replacing the second coach is taking a long time.
And our local event is full...and I mean completely full...

Jon's point is valid, of course. However, I expect it can be addressed by annotation of the graph, as Mark has done previously, to indicate how key dates shift year-to-year.

Quebec is growing also. I wonder how many years until they go District?

Which will be the first District with a main language other than English?

Mark, where do you get your data for registration over time from past years? I've only been able to find yearly totals.
