Taggerun, I've merged the two threads you made about getting the 2009 DS into a single one. Let's try to keep all of the discussion consolidated to one thread.

Love that the team358 pages are back up, such a great history resource, look all the way to the bottom of the page.

It was originally connected (wirelessly) with a router and a bridge.

or a LAN cable to tether it.

Re: 2009 DS Help!!!

Ok but how do the two routers connect to each other??

Have you searched for the documentation on the 2009 FRC control system?

Yah but the FIRST archive site was bringing me many 404's when looking for game documentation. Any ideas of team websites that might help??

Here are the 2009 benchtop steps:

Re: 2009 DS Help!!!

I was able to find documents by first going to this page

http://archive.usfirst.org/roboticsp...control-system

and then clicking on the dead link, copying the name of the document from the dead link, googling for that, and finding another archived copy. For example

http://www.education.rec.ri.cmu.edu/...ation-0-5c.pdf

Might work for several of the documents?

Grab a Classmate, make sure that the robot's cRIO and the Classmate are running compatible software from any year between '10 and '14, and follow those instructions as far as radios. Send the blue box to the "scrap parts" bin. :p You don't need the blue box to talk to the cRIO. That's why the Classmate was used starting in 2010 (though many teams tossed that too, once the computer restrictions were opened up). Yes, it's an interesting challenge. But doing it is probably going to require locating the '09 cRIO firmware versions, as that particular DS wasn't used past that year, at all.

As was touched on, there were a large number of issues with that little blue box, as nice as it was in terms of size. The biggest one is that every single one of them had to be fitted with a grounding cable after Week 1 events to deal with static discharge, er, taking the path of greatest damage.
