Hello CD,

KING TeC's student captains and board of directors are currently meeting weekly to work out all of the details on the Minne Mini, however, here are some details we have currently.
  • There will be three events run at our "Minne Mania" event: Minne Mini Regional (the FRC offseason event), FLL Regional Tournament, and a JrFLL expo.
  • Doors open at 7 am on November 19th, however, you may load in your pit the night before. The time to do this is currently undetermined.
  • We will be running workshops before FRC opening ceremonies. If you are interested in running a class, contact tournaments@kingtec2169.com

More to come and stay tuned!

Any plans of running a stream at the even?. People who are unable to attend are asking me.

KING TeC is planning to stream it. We are definitely going to run it through our Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK0...6ZLU8huS9G1bqQ). We are also considering a Twitch stream, but I do not think our Marketing team has made a definitive decision on that.

Re: Minne Mini-Regional 2016

Here are the rule changes:

Quote:

Drive Team Coaches:
For the purpose of training student drive team coaches,
an experienced drive team coach will be allowed in the arena with the drive team during a match.
This means 2 coaches are allowed for each team.

Tower Strength:
Each tower starts the match with strength of 10.

Defense Configuration for the Outer Works:
Different rules will apply to defense configuration during Qualification Matches.
Goal is to minimize time spent changing out defenses, so there is more time to play matches.
* Qualification Matches PRIOR TO lunch break = Random defense configuration # 1
(configuration will NOT change for the duration of morning qualification matches)
* Qualification Matches AFTER lunch break = Random defense configuration # 2
(configuration will NOT change for the duration of afternoon qualification matches)
* Elimination Matches = Standard defense selection rules will apply
Other than that it seems like it will be normal game play. Looks like it'll be a good event! Sadly I won't be able to attend because of a couple midterms around the date.

ALLIANCE SELECTION
ALLIANCES: There will be 4 alliances formed to play the Elimination Matches. Each alliance will consist of 3 teams.
ALLIANCE SELECTION ORDER: Alliance selection order is as follows: 1 > 4; 4 > 1; 1 > 4
So, is it 3 or 4 teams per alliance? This is unnecessarily confusing.

If I am correct, it means that there will be four alliances of three teams.

The four alliances is pretty straightforward, the 3 teams per alliance is less so. There are two ways to do it, 3 team alliances with backups or 4 team alliances. 3 team with backup is what I think they mean, but if you have alliance captains picking 1-4, 4-1, 1-4 then you have 4 team alliances.

At MRI, they did 4 team alliances and none of the alliance captains seemed to realize that they needed to communicate to the folks managing field which 3 of the 4 teams would be playing and at which drivers station before each match.

My vote is for 3 plus backups, but if the event organizers want 4 I'll be happy to set it up that way.

I just assumed it was 4 alliances of 4 robots just like most regular off-season events. That's what it should be in my opinion.

I realized I didn't provide a reference for my quote. It comes from this email attachment sent to attending teams.

Re: Minne Mini-Regional 2016

Hello everyone,

I just came out of a planning meeting and we found the miscommunication about alliance selection. Yes, in the email it said "1 > 4; 4 > 1; 1 > 4" for the selection process. It is meant to be 1>4; 4>1.

Again to clarify, in eliminations there will be 4 alliances of 3 teams. Each alliance will have a backup/substitution coupon for the next highest seed, just like standard regional play. I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

Thank you for the clarification. If you wouldn't mind sharing, what was the rationale for this decision?

The rational behind it is for the Minne Mini to be as close to regional play as we possibly can, as it was one of the Minne Mini's original intentions: to introduce new members of a team to how regionals work.
