Turning 20?

So Team 159 is turning 20 this year (We will be competing in our 20th competition season). I was wondering who else is turning 20?

These are the teams that started in 1998, but some of them are now defunct (e.g. team 2) or have since changed team numbers (e.g. 194 became 271), and others have not played every year (e.g., 188 due to teacher's strike sat out 2013).

Re: Turning 20?

Add 271 to that list.

Their original 1998 team number was 194 and they changed the next year, although I've forgotten why exactly (they are a neighboring team).

Re: Turning 20?

We're still alive and well :)

I've always been under the impression that prior to 1999 the numbers where randomly assigned each year which is why we were 194 in 1998.

You can add 125 to that list as well, our rookie year was 1998 and have been competing ever since!

Looks like we might be team #206 on the original list.

Re: Turning 20?

185 is now 272 so they should be on the list.

If I remember the story correctly their number changed from 1998 to 1999 because the team's main sponsor changed that year and back then FIRST used to lump team numbers together by main sponsors.

Re: Turning 20?

I think Hannah has it.
1997 was the last year for floating numbers and in 1998 FIRST assigned permanent numbers based on the primary sponsor name.

I think team 93 rookie year was 1997.

Right, so their 20th year would've been 2016. They'll be turning 21 this season.

Hmm that's odd. The official FIRST site has them searchable when viewing 2015-2016 season teams, but with no competition data since 2013. Thanks for the heads-up, I've edited my post.

Congrats, guys! Look forward to seeing what you all build this year!

Re: Turning 20?

Team 330, formerly team 82 (1998), would be 20. Except that there's that one year before then when they were merged with a couple other teams (294, 207), making all three teams 21 years--and 207 took a year off at some point.

294 and 330 go in for the 20 year mark as independent teams.

As a fun fact - Boston Latin first competed in 1992 then stopped competing again until 1998 when 125 formed. (Yes, I FINALLY got around to chasing this down)

I'll never stop being amazed at how slow growth in Boston was given the level of tech and schools around there and its proximity to HQ.

Re: Turning 20?

Congratulations everyone. WildStang is entering their 22nd year now. We made a special shirt that had every robot screen printed on the back. I love that shirt.
Team 112 may have a future if we can convince the district and get some additional sponsors. 112 was a Motorola team that disbanded and mostly went to BattleBots.
