[MC^2] 2016 FiM Analysis

As the season inches closer, I wanted to start an analysis series for the season that focuses on Michigan teams and events. My goal with MC^2 (Michigan Competition Calculations) is to show trends, patterns, and analyze events in Michigan as the season progresses. To kick things off I looked at statistics from last season.

2016 Looking Back
The events are in week order then in alphabetical order.

Defenses Selection
Most defence selections were what you would expect and stayed about constant except for a few events (No rough terrain in Southfield elims and lots of drawbridge selection in the Kettering #2 elims)

Defenses Crossing
Breaching success(In black) in quals increased significantly as the season when on. In qual matches most defenses had an increase in damage success except for the drawbridge. Then in elim matches defense success rate remained about the same except for the sallyport and drawbridge which fell significantly near the middle of the the season, but the Drawbridge made a comeback in the championship.

Boulders
For Boulders we see a steady increase in total number being scored with a peak around week 5 for district events, then a huge increase during the championship. Very few low goals were scored in the championship elim matches.

Capturing, Challenging, and Scaling
Qual match capture rates started at an abysmal 1% for week one but ended up above 50% in championship. Scaling and challenging also increased in qual matches, but that can’t be said for challenging rates in elims. As we can see in elims, more robots were scaling later season which meant challenging rates went down.

Score
Scores steadily increased as the season progressed, the peak for district events was week five. We see very big elims win margin compared to quals in Waterford due to the alliance of 67, 33, and 4003 putting up big scores. Then we see an even bigger win margin in East Kentwood elims due to alliance one (3620, 2767, and 5622) and alliance five (5162, 2474, and 4327) who regularly scored more than 100 points over their opponents.

In conclusion week five district events were the most achieving district events, then as the season progressed more robots scaled, scores went up, more boulders were being scored, and the breach rate went up.

If you haven't noticed yet MC^2 will be very similar to C^3 by Rachel Lim (which you should check out).
