NASA Grants??
Anybody hear anything on the NASA Grant Winners being announced today, on the FIRST Deadlines Calendar it says Winners wiill be announced on the web today, 20-Nov-02....we are waiting patiently, maybe :p
Just wondering if anyone had heard anything on it yet today.... |
From what I heard from our regional coordinator, the list will be released tomorrow.
|
it seems that today our team was added to the list for the Annapolis competition. We are thrilled about the fact that we got in but we don't know how we did it!? Did we win the grant or were we simply added to the list (because we were on a waiting list) because someone withdrew fron the comp?
Does anyone have any information on where i can verify if we won or not or any other information regarding the standings? |
Our team coordinator contacted NASA about this and NASA said that they have yet to finalize the list of winning teams and they will announce it either tommorrow or Friday.
|
Where will the list be released?
|
Should be posted here:

Yay! Our team got the grant... then again it was the first time we applied for it.
|
Yay! My old team got it too!
|
YAY!!!!!
YAY!! WE WON! GO NAVY!
|
Go Navy, Steve?
I know its at Annapolis, but go Navy? |
Royal Assualt got one this year...Annapolis...here we come
|
Our rookie Santa Monica #1115 got their NASA grant!
Our 2nd rookies' school, Woodbridge High Irvine CA, doesn't believe in them, and didn't apply for the NASA grant. :p They raised $10,000 on their own. Peninsula High Palos Verdes, a brand new school all on it's own this year, didn't get a rookie team off the ground this year, but will be joining our team! Beach Bots rookie South High Torrance CA # 1197 got their grant. Finally an "in" on the 5 Torrance high schools. :D |
Just to supply a new aspect to all this joyful celebration of getting money, my team didn"t get the grant we applied for, so anyone know where in the Georgia area I could find my team about 7-8 grand?

I heard of 2 CA teams who didn't get their grant. :( |
Congratulations to all the teams that did get the grant. Use the money wisely, and go for the gold.
If your team did not receive the grant, I'm sorry. I wish all teams success in the upcoming season. |
hmmm, anyone else see that out of 122 teams signed up for the grant, only 18 (or about 14%) had team numbers which were below 600? I find it great that NASA's supporting so many mainly first-year and second-year teams.
I also find it suprising that 122 * $5,000 = $610,000. When a government agency gives away almost two thirds of a million dollars in support of FIRST teams, you know you're involved in a good program. Anyways, congradulations to all the winners, and I hope all the teams that weren't fortunate to have this boost of support try again next year. |

The NASA grants I'm talking about are only for first and second year teams. I was told rookie teams all had 4 digit numbers, but that may not be true? Are all 2nd year teams the ones with 3 digit numbers? |
SuperDanman,
The grants are actually $6,000 apiece. |
$
thank god my team (639) got the grant, without it we would not be participating this year. we are located in a small, crappy, sport oriented community and none of the 3 colleges will give us money

yeah, I was assuming since the grant said nothign about specifically being for the first registration, I assumed it was for regionals besides the first one. Oh well, thats a bit better anyways.
