[FTC]: Smartdashboard for FTC

Some of the FTC students who I mentor asked me if it was possible to have a dashboard program similar to the smartdashboard in FRC for them to use in competition. Is it against the rules for this or can FTC teams setup their own dashboards?

You can only use the FTC Driver and Robot Controller apps in competition.
