We've had good results with both GizmoDorks filament on Amazon and MakeShaper filament in our MakerBot Replicator 2 printers.

So we use PLA and ABS for non-stress/non-load bearing parts.
PETG and various Nylon filaments for load bearing applications.

In addition to the recommendations here I like Makergeeks filament.
Made in USA and quality is consistent with good pricing.

We have played with some embedded material filaments. No really impressed and like someone else said layer adhesion can be a problem.

We printed a 3/4" hex shaft coupler in Nylon a couple years back and it last all season. However, that shaft did not have to endure a lot of torque.

We print all sorts of covers for talons, battery terminals, ports, boxes for electronics, and mounts for switches and servos.
