FRC In Indiana 2017

How's it going Indiana teams, are we ready for FRC Steamworks?

I'm just wanting any Indiana teams' thoughts on this next year, any predictions prior to the release of the game, or any teams that you think we should keep an eye out for. Also, post anything new that your team is doing in preparation for this year that's any different than before. Lastly, congratulations to team 1501 for hosting the State Championship this year!

Predictions before the game:
  • I'm gonna freeze my butt off here. (You didn't say they had to be *about* the game.)
  • The Kokomo YMCA's indoor pool will be very beneficial.

Teams to keep an eye out for:
I'm still working on this one--the only in-state events I've been to since I got here were Boiler Bot Battle (with a small team count and lots of B-teams) and IRI (which is, well, IRI). The only other team I'm really around much is CyberTooth (imagine that), and I think most of us would be more shocked to see them miss the show at any given event than to do well in it.

What have the Iron Kings been up to?
I wasn't around for last season, but the results speak for themselves--36th in the rankings, missed state, no hardware, one quarterfinals appearance as the second pick, and two teachers that both left the team over the off-season. So this fall has been a lot of rebuilding, from sponsors to software. We're still not to the level I'd really prefer, but seeing where things were I think it's great progress. Making playoffs and making our way to Huntington feels very plausible.

Well 461 over went a massive change this off season as we moved to a new build facility and lost many of our manufacturing machines. This year we have a pretty young team so we are taking the next few weeks to train everyone in CAD and fabrication. We're hoping to end the finalist curse this season as always.

The cold here is imaginary, you get used to it after a while (I'm fruequently seen sporting t-shirts in subzero temperatures).

As for teams to look out for, here's what I came up with:
45- TechnoKats
71- Hammond
135- Penn Robotics
234- Cyber Blue
461- Westside Boiler Invasion
868- TechHounds
1024- Kil-a-Bytes
1501- T.H.R.U.S.T
1720- Phyxt Gears
1741- Red Alert
1747- Harrison Boiler Robotics
3176- Purple Prescision
3940- CyberTooth
3947- The Last Crusaders
5188- Classified Robotics

No TechnoKats? Bold indeed.

That's why I put the caveat at the bottom. They've already got a lifetime ticket to CMP. They will defer state to save finances.
A sizeable team contingent will still come as volunteers.

I feel like I say this a lot but don’t sleep (count out) on 4982. They’ve been pretty good the past few years, even captaining an alliance to the finals of an event last year.

I must say, I find it indeed bold to not list 5188, 5403, or 5484 on this list. That being said, I can somewhat understand why on all three.

Also, thank you for listing 4272! We are preparing for what we hope to be a great season!! Good luck to everyone competing!!!

Game Predictions:
We predict that the district events will potentially be played on a field, possibly in a high school gymnasium somewhere. Further than that, it's all just guesses. :)

Thoughts on Teams:
I agree with the lists here already as teams to look out for. As a whole, the level of competitiveness of Indiana teams had increased quite a bit between the 2015 season and the 2016 season, so I would look out for a similar increase between 2016 to 2017 for this year.

How 5188 has been doing:
For those aware, 5188 has gone through a huge overhaul between the 2016 Season and the 2017 one. For one, one of our longtime (if you can say that on a team that's only been around for 4 years) mentors moved on from the team last year mid season. This had led to a lot of scrambling, and our 2016 season and robot had been impacted from that.

This offseason has been a huge effort in trying to figure out what direction we wanted our team to go, and figuring out a couple school and funds problems along the way. I'm proud to say that I believe 5188 has figured out many of these issues with an almost entirely new mentor base, and I think we will be in good shape for the 2017 season. I personally believe that 5188 will be in Huntington in early April and we look forward to seeing all of Indiana's team's here in the upcoming months.

I predict Indiana teams will kick 'bot at CMP with at least three appearing in division finals, and one on Einstein. Also, exactly one Indiana team on the winning IRI alliance.

Ya'll fight it out over which teams fulfil the above.

Re: FRC In Indiana 2017

I imagine that the current and consistent top 3 will probably be the ones making it to division finals:
1501
1024
234 (Had a poor year, by their standards, even though they did amazing at champs. I think they will be able to do much better this year)

I gotta say 234 will probably be winning IRI too, with a home field advantage.

Has any of the host teams ever won IRI though?

Personally I wouldn't count out 868 or 1747 this year.

Bold(ish) predictions:

- 5188, 461, 1646, and 1741 will win an event this year as captain or first pick, but not on the #1 alliance.
- The #1 alliance will not win at any events
- The #5 alliance will win dcmp

I'll take it. The number of times 461 had to go against 1741 last season (11 times out of 13 pairings) I wouldn't mind playing on the same side and winning an event this year.
