LGBTQ+ of FIRST - Accepting Admin Applications + Updates
 

Hello all!

LGBT+ of FIRST is a blog that aims to provide resources and increase confidence for LGBT+ people to follow their passion for STEM in and out of FIRST. The admin of LGBTQ+ of FIRST have a few announcements and updates for the Chief Delphi community! First, we would like to thank everyone for their support of the blog over the last eight months. Our following has grown substantially, and it’s meant so much to all of us. We’d specifically like to thank everyone who donated to our GoFundMe campaign for LGBT+ of FIRST lapel pins (https://www.gofundme.com/lgbt-of-first-lapel-pins). Thanks to your support, the campaign exceeded its stretch goal in less than two weeks! The completion of this fundraiser will allow us to create 1000+ 1"x1" logo pins to be distributed at competitions and FIRST events. Thank you again to all the gracious contributors and especially to Jon Kentfield, who hosted the fundraiser, in addition to a number of Cybertooth members and Andy Mark employees who helped design the pins and organize fundraiser details. We are incredibly thankful for everyone’s support.

Second, we are excited to announce that in two weeks we will be opening our Discord server to the public. It’s a free chat platform that is compatible with most desktop and mobile operating systems. This server is open to all members of FIRST and offers an additional opportunity for mentors and students to exchange advice, share ideas for community building or just talk! We’re excited to begin this method of open communication.
Finally, we are reopening admin applications for anyone who’s interested in helping us with this resource! Applications will be open from today, 11/30/16, to next Wednesday, 12/7/16. After this time, applications will be closed so we can hold interviews for potential staff members. While we are accepting applications from all regions, we are prioritizing applications from international students, as well as those from the southern and western regions of the United States. I'm an admin at LGBTQ+ of FIRST currently and honestly, it's been a lot of fun talking with the other admins and doing what we can to try to educate others and raise awareness of LGBTQ+ people in FIRST.
We're all excited about the successful GoFundMe campaign and looking forward to see what the future may bring!

We finally received in the LGBTQ+ of FIRST pins today from the manufacturer. I am so excited to be able to share these with the community. Find a blog admin this season to get one!
