Excellent idea you've got there.

Seeing as though most, if not all FRC students own a computer and use it for some form of gaming, I can see this becoming quite the hit with the community.

Gaming & FRC have always been intertwined as far as I can tell. However, to try and bring FIRST teams to gaming events would seem to be a good idea for teambuilding, and in general a fun thing to do.
(Alternatively FRC could get the production value of gaming events like TI & IEM and hold top slot on Twitch again, but hey.)(My 2c)

Gamers and FRC students are frequently togeathet. Especially the CAD designers. I personally can only justify my gaming PC because I also use it for CAD s

Honestly, this team is the reason I even play LoL, let alone as often as I do. Our 2015 robot was Rumble themed.

If this becomes a thing I REALLY HOPE its in the south Florida area. Also to get the word out a bit more about this, you should also post this on the FRC Subreddit. I get the feeling that those that browse reddit might be more gaming inclined

Thank you everyone who has responded. It seems an event like this would be WAY more popular than we anticipated. Many great suggestions have come in regarding how it would be organized, where it would take place, etc.

We are still working out details but I can tell you that this wouldn't take place at a FIRST competition. They do not have the space for something like this. We are currently looking into appropriate venues.

CMBrandon,

I think I 'm stating the obvious; but just in case...

If your vision includes adding a side-venue of some sort at or near official FIRST/VEX events, I suggest treading lightly, and involving FIRST/VEX HQ in some way.

Time spent at FIRST/VEX/etc. events is (expensive and) precious. A side-venue that helps FIRST/VEX/etc. achieve their goals is a good thing.

Entertainment during the down-time during the events is a good thing.

A distraction during the important parts of the events wouldn't be a good thing.

To be even more clear than my previous post:

This would not be, in any way, at or near a first event. It would not conflict with an event either. 100% separate.

We care that the events first puts on and that teams attending are successful. We do everything in our power to support the teams and we care that their experience is one they will remember.

Many survey respondents have literally said, "I hope this is at champs" or "this would be cool to have at a regional." We don't think that's in the spirit of FIRST competition. The focus is your ideas and your robot, not gaming. That being said, there will be a time and place for this. Look for announcements soon.

I think it could work as part of the socials often seen at regionals. Those often have some form of gaming there anyway, so why not organize it a little more?

This is a really good idea. If anyone could organize it, it would be Cooler Master.
