Wicked

Here in new england we use the word "Wicked" alot. It comes out of our mouths about 20-50 times a day. I have been to NYC, DC, FL, and NC and I havent heard anyone use the word "WICKED". Although my uncle lives about 4 blocks from the UNC campus and there is a place there called "Wicked Taco" but its been shut-down....

Do you use wicked?

Wickeddd.....

It probably has to do with New Englands little witch problem a few hundred years back. It just kinda stuck.

I dunno, Its as natural as saying cool.

I say "wicked" every now and then, just to make fun of people who say it commonly. We have a number of our own sayings, here in California, I think.

Anyone else every say or hear the word "hella"?

Growing up in California, it was "Cool" or "Dude!" every other word. I only heard surfers use the word "Tubular," when they were referring to a certain kind of position in a big enough wave.

In Utah, it's, "Holy cow!" (almost nobody uses profanity there. It is most peculiar, but kinda nice just the same).

I have heard my New Hapmshire neighbors use "wicked" quite a bit. My children are starting to use it too, but it's taken them almost two years to pick it up.

I remember using "wicked" a lot when I was in college, back in 199... oh, let's just say it was a while ago. But I think you're right about it being a big New England thing because one of my friends in college who was from New England used it with everything. "Wicked cool, wicked bad, wicked odd, wicked awesome..." kind of made us want to wack her with a wicket.

OK, I've lived in New England all my life and I have not heard or used that word in those terms ever!

I seem to remember "wicked" from the '60s or '70s. (Yes, I AM that old. ) I'm wondering whether the NE penchant stems from that era, vice versa, or neither.
