Extra Wild card at Regionals on to Worlds?

Is there something new for 2017 Regionals with 1 addl team going to Worlds? My understanding is if there are no duplicates, the addl wildcard would go to the alliance team captain that loses in the Finals of each match. Sound right?

How many FRC teams were there last year in comparison to how many are expected at each World Championships this year?

Yes, each regional next year will generate an additional wildcard. By default, this goes to the Finalist alliance captain. If they are already qualified for Champs or qualify on RCA/REI/RAS, the same wildcard rules as always apply in determining who receives it (Finalist Captain -> Finalist First Pick -> Finalist Second Pick -> Finalist Backup if there is one).
