Last Years RPM

I was just curious how had the highest output RPM last year? this is another attempt at a normal thread.

Mike Schroeder 29-11-2002 21:54

The RObot that had the Highest RPM would have to be my 1989 Ford Bronco. it was at almost every competiton and would have competed if it wernt against the law to have a Flashing Blue/Red light on my car

evulish 29-11-2002 22:28

It may have also gone a tad bit over the weight limit...but that, of course, could easily have been fixed by drilling holes in it :D

Mike Schroeder 29-11-2002 22:30

Hmm a swiss cheese Bronco NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

FotoPlasma 30-11-2002 04:39

You could replace "Big Mike" with a smaller Mike... that might reduce the weight...

;)

Just as long as no one puts weight reduction holes in me

evulish 30-11-2002 14:40

*puts away his drill* Yeah...uhh...ohh.

Madison 30-11-2002 23:28

Can we fill you with helium?

Mike Schroeder 01-12-2002 01:35

No, I think That would hurt (/Chimpunk Voice)

I also had a Bronco, FULL SIZE, and it had the 5.0 (all you ford peeps are happy) w/ the 4x4! And it was all under weight thanks to RUST! (That just shows you FORD Sucks)

:D

Mike Schroeder 02-12-2002 21:42

the CJ was the 1st Jeep, and if Fords "sucked" then they wouldnt be in buisness still now would they'

When i started this i kind of meant to see robot RPM seeing this is a technical board for robots. I really miss talk about robots. i can't wait 1 month and two days. All this talk about where the championship will be and the segway is getting a little tiresome.

I think the conversation went askew because nobody is really too sure what you're asking about.

RPM of what, exactly? Wheels? Who was fastest? They're not synonymous.

Could you clarify yourself some, please?

Ken Leung 02-12-2002 23:38

Thanks M. ;)

Next time, guys, when you see a post with unclear questions, try to do what M did and suggest to the person that maybe his/her original post wasn't clear enough for others to understand what he/she meant, instead of going off topic.

Brett was just trying to start a conversation. What would you feel if someone cut you off in the middle of a thread you started and start talking about something else?

Mike Schroeder 02-12-2002 23:48

If that is the case Mr. Ken :P

The Silver Scorpion ran at about 5500 Rpm using 2 chiapua mortors

i think the gear ratio was like 33:1 but dont quote me on that

i am not sure a bout the other motors we used, but they were 2 window motors for the claws and a seat motor for our "Mini-Me"Hope that helped

Andy Brockway 03-12-2002 13:31

Our robot geared the atwood and drill motor (in low) together to give an output shaft speed of 300 rpm. We then used a 2:1 chain drive to provide 150 rpm at the wheels which were 9" in diameter.

Speed in inches/minute can be calculated by multiplying the circumference of the wheel by the rpm. Further calculations would translate it into something meaningful like feet/second.

The gearbox and this info is available in the white papers. Look for Dual Motor and Team 716. Other gearbox papers give the same type of information. Do not be afraid to do a little investigation (and calculation) on your own. The stuff you learn in FIRST is the real world application of the stuff you learn in school.

Thanks.

That first paragraph that andy posted is exactly what i was looking for. sorry for the confusion.

FotoPlasma 03-12-2002 21:51

We had two different gear ratios, in our drive boxes, last season: a 10:1 reduction for high-speed, and a 100:1 reduction for high-torque (I really hope I'm not wrong with these figures, that would be very embarassing...).

From the technical information about the Chiaphua motor, on page 5 of Team Update 3, and using a conservative estimate (the lower rpm listed [4,300rpm]), in high-speed mode, we had 430rpm at the wheels (with high-torque pulling in 43 whole rotations per minute).

I ain't no mechanics expert, so if anything I am citing or calculating is wrong, please alert me to it immediately.

FatNick 04-12-2002 21:04

I have no clue what our rpm was but i know in high gear our treds were flying and when our robot was on the stand we would run it wide open with out the treds touching in my opinion its sounded like a turbo diesel winding up.
 Fords dont suck. The only thing thats more important to me then my ford is robotics and my girlfriend.
