I blatantly point out to everyone that yes, every machine you use has the ability to kill or maim you and it's your job to pay close attention to your work so that is prevented.

Protect your life.
Protect your brain.
Protect your eyes.
Protect your hands.
Protect your body.
Protect your ears.
Protect the machine.
Protect your work.

In that order. No part is worth a lifetime of disability. Parts are replaceable, machines are repairable, but you are not.

Well said.... In my opinion being rested and well fed allows anyone to make better decisions. PPE is a help in staying safe but your actions and the actions of others are really what keeps you from getting hurt or hurting others.

Thanks! I used this yesterday with just a few minor tweaks:

Slide 5 (Kickoff 101): Moved Get copy of game manual to the top of the list. Read Game manual became Decrypt and Read ...

Slide 6 (Chief Hedgehog's RTM quote): appended a line "and keep up with the Team Updates and Q&A". A few of the rule changes gave us fits in the early years because we did not see them until the last minute.

To add to the suggestion of places to wear safety glasses, they should also be worn when tying pit items down in your trailer or other vehicle used to transport said items. I say this because freshman year I had a bungee cord accidentally unhook while I was pulling it around some stuff and it slapped me in the face. Fortunately I had on safety glasses, otherwise I would have had bungee cord hook in my eye. It still hurt and I had a minor bruise, but there was no need to go to the hospital.

9. how?

I think what he means is people will start saying i don't need to wear safety glasses when i'm not in the shop, which will then progress into i don't need to wear safety glasses when i'm not working on anything in the shop, which then leads to i don't need to wear safety glasses.

Great presentation by the way.
