More motors means that for a given torque load on the drivetrain, each motor is at a more efficient point on its operating curve (possibly 65% efficiency instead of the 40-45% at peak power). When designing for maximum sprint speed, FRC drivetrains are effectively limited by the amount of electrical power we can draw. If you could add the additional motors with minimal additional mechanical losses and implement a control system to manage inrush currents, this could be a way to shave off a few more tenths of a second, if that's important. I'm not sure if 10 motors is the most optimal design for this, though. |
