How is 900 going to be meeting? We're splitting up into house groups because we can, but I can't imagine that you guys will be able to get the other half of your team together at the build space. Also is the school letting buses leave for extracurriculars?

And to answer your question in a previous thread,

"Durham - We are waiting for word on the likelihood of the school closing on Saturday.
Back-up plan: The KOP will be available for pick up at Durham Academy on Monday and Tuesday."

Unfortunately you'll have to completely disassemble, remake any custom parts, and reassemble because you started building before kickoff.

Oh Raleigh, you and your snowmageddon.....

Yetis have to deal with snow all the time right? Therefore I think we will meet Saturday afternoon at the Zone once the snow stops falling but we will watch the broadcast from our homes. We will also open up Sunday for nearby teams to come get their kits and see the mock field.

My FRC team's mascot is a yeti (and the FTC team is a snowbot). But, we live in Michigan, and there's over 2 ft of snow cover here, and about 100 inches have fallen so far this season.

And we're hosting a kickoff during a Lake Effect Snow Advisory.

Yes, well, Michigan has a fleet of snowplows. NC has like 2 for the whole state. We don't do snow here. Seriously, no one here should really be driving during this stuff. We just aren't prepared for it.

This may be because it's occurring in Southern states where people aren't used to driving in snow and ice.

Help your communities that aren't prepared for the snow and build some robotic snowthrowers. :cool:

Also, just because you live in an area that gets a decent amount of snowfall, it doesn't mean that everyone there knows how to drive in it. Be safe, everyone!

School only ever gets canceled here when it gets cold enough to freeze the gas in the busses. I'm pretty sure a solid foot has come down before without cancelling school.

4534 has still managed to keep our facility open (for now) so we luckily still get to watch the kickoff broadcast together. Some of our rookie friends down here had their schools cancel though so they can't join us :(

I think as a substitute for watching the 2017 FRC game launch together, teams that can't meet tomorrow should simply watch the SpaceX launch together on Sunday.

Yep. It's all about what your communities are prepared for. Up here (generally) schools will start cancelling if the temp with wind chill is a combined -25. It's connected with how long kids have to stand outside waiting for the bus. Snow cancellations used to be few and far between, but fear of liability has changed that over the last several years.

Our school's required that extracurriculars not meet during the snow weekend, so we're looking at video conferencing as a full team for the first time. Our goal is to have one person screen share, while everyone else can instant message (or voice chat if possible). Do you know if the free version of WebEx handle that? Thanks for your help, and good luck with the weather!

From what I read, you can only have two other people with the WebEx free version.

I would advise Google Hangouts.

1648's Snow Plan right now is to use a series of GoToMeeting free trials (which last 30 days). Their calls can hold 50 people (at least that's what it says, we've only tested with about a dozen) and the trial lasts for 30 days. It also doesn't require anyone (except the person downloading the trial) to make an account.

For reference, Skype can do 25 person calls with voice only, and Google hangouts can do 10 people.
