Our team is a newer team. Last year was out first year, we were going through everything for this year and we noticed our laptop was stolen. Do we get a new laptop every year?

The laptop/netbook is given to Rookie Teams as part of the Rookie KOP( one of the reasons for the increased registration cost), it is not given to non-rookies unfortunately.

I would have a good look around your workspace/storage area, also ask your students and mentors to check that they don't have it at home. It is a pretty small laptop and it's better to have a good search now, then to find it later after you've bought a new laptop.

tl;dr - An older business-grade laptop in many cases works better than a cheap new consumer laptop.

Very sorry to hear that your laptop was stolen :( I hope you are able to recover it.

The good news is that the FRC Driver Station software is not terribly resource intensive and you can run it on pretty much any laptop, including ones that team members may already have. Software development and code deployment can also be done on any PC.

Was your laptop from last year stolen? Or did you think there was supposed to be a laptop in your kit and when you found out it didn't have one assume it was stolen.

I know this doesn't help for this year but in the future, there is a driver station available for 200 FIRST Choice credits.

The very same computer is available from the same retailer (B&H) for around $200 but for $200 you can probably find more options at that price point. I recommend looking at the thread that was already mentioned.
