Wide wheels??
 

Can anyone please clarify on the advantages of a wide wheel?
Why do some teams go for the 1.5'' wheels and not the 0.75'' once who will save space and weight?

One big advantage of wider wheels is that under side stresses, like an impact, the wider wheel tends to hold up better. In games like 2013-2014, we saw a lot of shattered and damaged narrow wheels.

In the case of the Colson wheels the wider wheels are more durable thus giving more consistent performance over time and less of a need to replace them on a regular basis.

In 2014, Gear it Forward used 2.5" wide wheels on the middle 2 wheels (6-wheel tank drive) to increase traction, making us harder to push around. That much certainly worked pretty well.

Despite what other people might say, it usually has to do with wear and less with overall traction. Yes, we all know that typically a greater contact patch seems to provide more traction, but it certainly isn't on the same order of magnitude as wear reduction. PLUS, technically with the same material on the floor, your static resistance should be the same anyways.

Typically teams will put wider wheels in the middle of their drivetrain where there is constant contact with the floor, typically for WCD drop centers. See 1678 in 2014 as an example.
