Offence on the airship?

After much thought and searching the forums, nobody has mention a strategy evolving slowing down the rate at which the pilots process the gears (that I could find anyway). The reason I bring this up is because I notice that the gears are all dependent on your pilots and their speed. I was wondering if anybody had ideas/methods that could legally make the job of a pilot for the other team much more difficult/impossible?

Technically I haven't seen any rule against stealing a gear off of a lift but an unattended gear should be rare and will be hard to get from the angles involved.

I am curious as to what strategies you are considering. Other than taking a Gear off of an unattended Lift or knocking a Gear off a Lift as the Human Player pulls it up, I don't know of any strategies that could be implemented.

That is the thing, I feel like there definitely is a strategy that can cause problems for pilots, I mean why else is there a specific way to get fuel out of the airship if they are not meant to be there in the first place? Or even better, why does the airship not have protection from the field waist-up?

See Rule 7.5

G25. AIRSHIPS run on steam, not FUEL. ROBOTS may not intentionally put FUEL in an AIRSHIP.
Violation: YELLOW CARD.
G26. If you’re going to deliver GEARS, you have to use a LIFT. Any GEAR transferred to a PILOT during the MATCH must be done so via a LIFT.
Violation: TECH FOUL and a YELLOW CARD.

That pretty much makes messing with the Pilots using game pieces out.

I guess we'll have to revert to aiming lasers at their retinas. Just kidding. Please don't do that.

So pelting the pilots with gears shot at high speed is out.

I'd imagine FIRST has though of every way to keep robots from remotely affecting pilots from doing their job for sheer safety. Clever thinking, but dangerous, and super illegal. :deadhorse:

It's called "missed shot". Think about this scenario: A robot is parked by the Launchpad's Hopper, draining shots like crazy, and gets hit by an opponent, changing the aim. Suddenly Fuel is hitting Rotors and dropping into the Airship.

That would also be why G25 specifies "intentionally".

Just about any method that I can think of violates S03, G25, and/or G26.

For the sake of common sense and decency, these are high school kids. Putting them in the middle of the field is already a big step towards potential risks. FIRST has already banned launching fuel into the airship, but please don't try to think of ways to circumvent that rule. From a safety standpoint, and equally important just from a common sense standpoint, don't torment these high schoolers in the middle of the field. Winning a match simply isn't worth it.

Maybe park next to the airship and blast some Rick Astley at them.

Re: Offence on the airship?

Messing with the pilots will be pretty much non-existent.

From a background standpoint, anything you do to interact with the pilot will be limited just for safety. Even lifting gears from a robot is on the fence and could possibly change down the road.

From a driver standpoint, the lifts are on the sides of the airship FACING the alliance color. This means you have no visibility aside from what you see in your slightly delayed camera. Blind driving into a robot trying to line up to deliver a gear is one thing. Trying to knock a gear off before the pilot pulls it up is a whole nother can-o-worms.
