Gear Drive Question

Hello all, due to some size constraints these two Versa Planetary gearboxes need to be mounted in this awkward position. One is 1:100 and the other is 1:35 and the gears on them are 20:60. Does anyone see this as a problem? As long as the ratios end up the same I believe it should be fine. Thoughts?

Re: Gear Drive Question

Why not run the dual motor input from VexPro or switch to a more powerful motor such as the 775pro?
You may also want to consider using belt or chain to transfer power, it may open up some better options for you.

Re: Gear Drive Question

The ratios don't work out exactly for that setup - 35 times 3 is 105:1, not 100:1. It won't be the most efficient way to get power from both motors.

Is there any reason you can't use the 2 motor VP adapter here? This seems like the perfect application for it, and it would take up less space.

Alternately, could you make both gearboxes the same ratio, and use 40 tooth gears on each to mesh them together? It's the same center to center spacing but no weird ratio combinations.

You could also use a single 775Pro for almost as much power as 2 BAGs. Any number of other solutions seem more robust and reliable than this one.

Re: Gear Drive Question

35*3 = 105

It might be close enough for an FRC bot, but it's definitely not ideal.

Re: Gear Drive Question

The added length sticks outside our frame perimeter. We want the added safety of being able to stall the motor for more than 1/4 of a second without it burning out.

I misunderstood how the Dual motor input is assembled. It looks like it will fit! Thanks for getting me to double check that.

Re: Gear Drive Question

I would run 2 40t gears and the same ratio on both if you are set on using bag motors. Also, in the 4 seconds it takes a 775pro to burn out, it should be possible to have a current monitoring program shut down that mechanism. Can you provide details on what mechanism this is driving? Without knowing the application its hard to determine the best solution.
