Spell Check
There is now a spell checker. It's not going to catch every mistake, but it should grab a number of them. It's pretty self-explanatory, but if you need help, reply here.
|
When I click the button, nothing happens, even though I inserted a few spelling mistakes. What action is it supposed to take? (i.e. alert you, silently fix, etc.)
Stephen PS. This is a test for the spellcheker. |
Click the button, a pop-up should appear. Your text will be in there, and all mis-spelled words will be in a drop-down, with correct spelled suggestions. Change them, hit 'check again' and then 'Finish Checking'. If it looks OK, hit 'Insert in Document',. and it will replace your previous text with the corrected text.

Ah, ok. I disable pop-ups in Opera, so that's why I didn't notice anything happening.
Thanks, Stephen |
Thanks! :D

TANKS! I reilley nead thus

Oh! But now i don't have the excuse of not spelling good. (To lazy)
Read my sig :) PS: What 'service' are you using? Or, is this a hack that you found. (More with the word db, and not how the actual code works) |
It is a perl script that uses 'aspell' [link]. The only thing I modified with vBulletin was adding the button that sent your message to the perl script via javascript, which in turn sent back the corrected version, and placed it back into vBulletin. Probably very easy to add on to phpBB2, if of course you can install aspell on your server.
Next task: find out how to add words to the dictionary; or at least use 2 dictionaries. (1=english, 2=FIRST) :) |

If I can find a way to add words, I will make a page where you can submit words to add. Approval-based, of course.
|
Well, I don't know how you could do it dynamically, but you can always build your own dictionary using the "create" option to aspell. Here's the official site to look at for details: http://savannah.gnu.org/download/asp...00000000000000.
The only real problem I see is that there is no way to add an individual word; you have to create a whole new dictionary based on some "master" dictionary and a user-defined word-list. I suppose you could just keep copy of the plain-text word-list around and rebuild the dictionary every few days using the official English dictionary as your base. --Rob |
Brandon, do you think you could try finding a 'stupid check' hack for VBulletin?
"I'm sorry, but your post is exceptionally stupid. Please try again in a few minutes." I think it'd be valuable addition. :) |

Hooray for computers
Awesome. This will go a long way in improving the readability of some of these forums. Way to go, Brandon.
