I would definitely have to say that the teams that really stick out in my mind aren't always the powerhouse teams, the teams that have been in the FIRST circle since the beginning, or the teams that win the competitions. The FIRST teams I think of (no pun intended) are the ones that present themselves well and still manage to pull off great machines. Many teams come up with great names, such as the ThunderChickens, the Penguins, and the Killer Bees, while others have trademarks such as wearing tie-dyed shirts year after year or wearing hats from Cat in the Hat. These teams, I believe, not only put hard work into their machines but also spirit into their team. These are the teams that build for six weeks and live for the competition, the moment of robot truth- and then wait for more than half the year to do it all again. These types of teams are what bring high schoolers into the FIRST program. This is what kids look at and say, "hey, this is something that I want to be involved in." These teams bring inspiration, enthusiasm, and fun to the world of FIRST.

Um, I don't see any ROOKIE TEAM NAMES HERE. How about a few of them?
|
Hailfire: There are most likely no rookie team names here because you are that. Rookies. you havent gotten any exposure at competitions, etc. My guess is that once other teams start to see you around, you will be recognized, and then people will know your name.

These are all cool. Why is it all the ones in vegas kinda suck :(

favorite team name...The Quantum Mechanics
This was a team I had a few years back....great name. Our sponsor that year was a company called "Quantum Consultants", and so our name was 'The Quantum Mechanics'. We wore garage mechanic uniforms. They were really too hot for Florida, and the kids didn't even get the quantum Mechanics thing. No physics or chemistry students in the group, I guess.

As you will see in my sig, we are now the Circuit Breakers.

Very biased, I've always liked Royal Fusion (1999-2001).
Not because of the name, because it's actually quite dumb, but because of what we did with it. Sparkling capes, Team Spirit awards 2 out of 3 years (the 3rd year we got sportsmanship, which is close enough), our newsletters, and the bonds some of us had with Purdue's team, Wildstang, Toga Party, and The Feds, among others. We had a very close team bond that continues into our post-robotic lives. Many of our alumni actually don't like "Thunderchickens" as a name, though it does have a strong marketing potential. Sorry for the nastalgic ramblings. "Those Meddlin' Kids" and they had a Mystery Machine |
My favorite name that my school has been was when we were team #69 (remember when they switched numbers and you were different number every year)...
So we dressed up as a football team, the girls were cheerleaders and the boys were the football players...and we were Blitz, "We Score on and off the field" hehehe :yikes: |
The Robo-Hobos team 116 in 99, fated to last only 1 year.
Apes Of Wrath Brazillian Buddy Bomb Squad SeaDawgs MOE then I draw a blank. Wetzel ~~~~~~~~~~ H:\Lauryn Hill\The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill\Lauryn Hill - 07 - Final Hour.mp3 |
i have to say to swando:quiet you
and i , although biased, like The Thunderchickes. I mean come on our robot is called "The Colonel" i did like the royal fusion too. i like the martians. maybe i just like the familiar green...... |
SPAM is probably one of my favorite names, also. I like the Kinetic Knights(pretty sure) and the Omega team - I forget what their real name & numbers were, but they had an Omega (also an Ohm symbol) and were called resistance, or something...My memory doesn't hold very true.
Oh yeah, and I always thought that the Robo ticks had a clever play on words. ComBBAT is also an acronym- it stands for Boeing Brevard Community College Astronaut High School Titusville High School The Com part though...I dunno, we could have just been BBAT but then we would only get the Bat symbols and stuff, and have no explaination for the Camoflauge. |
