Read from an encoder

We've been attempting to use an encoder, but unable to read data from it. We have an SRX Mag Encoder from CTRE. It's plugged into the data port on a talon SRX. We have attempted to read from it using the Get Status VI in the Talon library, but it has only given an output of 0. Everything appears to be connected correctly and the program runs, it just doesn't provide any data. How do we read from these encoders?

Re: Read from an encoder

Are you telling the Talon the correct type of feedback device?

Re: Read from an encoder

Try simplifying. Instead of plugging the encoder into the Talon SRX, plug it into the DIO ports on the roboRIO and use the LabVIEW example program for Encoders found by going to Help -> Find Examples and looking in the "Digital" folder. The wiring diagram for connecting the encoder to the DIO ports is on the front panel of the example program.

If that works, then you know the encoder is working and you can worry about the Talon SRX.
