Qotw [12-15-02]: Other locations for regional competitions...

Hi all. Its time for question of the week again. Let's have a fun one this week ;).

Questions 12/15/02: In the future, what other cities would you like to see having a regional FIRST Robotics Competition?

Remember, we now have teams from Canada, Brazil, and Germany. In the future, FIRST might expand to even more countries around the world, so answers don’t have to be limited by the four countries. Also think South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica… Maybe in the far future we will expand onto other planets as well ;). A Mars regional sounds like a great idea too.

Have fun,

-Ken L

Please e-mail me at wheres_kenny@hotmail.com or IM me if you have any suggestions for question of the week. Thanks!

... and teams from England and Purto Rico!

A lot of the European countries are involved with
Bots at the school level , they are all considering
joining the FIRST family.

Even Japan has SumoBot competitions.

... a Japan Regional.......

:D

Fairbanks, Alaska! Or even better, Coldfoot Alaska (just inside the Arctic Circle)!

I have been saying for a few years now that we need to work to have the FIRST Arctic Circle Regional!

Its Europe! There got to be SOME famous cities in there, right?

This just popped into my mind... It would be really cool if Rome have a regional, and the regional competition is held inside the Coliseum. Talk about a change of culture! Instead of gladiators fighting each other and animals promoting violence, we would have robotics competition promoting science and technology. I bet they didn't expect that when they first built the Coliseum.

I'd love to see robots that run on snow. Or if that wasn't the game, we could drive them on the snow anyway.:D

Actually.. I don't recommend it... here in the mountain country where my team is located, we don't have a big 'warm' season, so most of the time it is cold & in the snow. Anyways, most of our festivals are 'Winterfests'.... we attempted to go off roading in the snow... and wow! I have never seen so much magic white smoke or sparks before!!!! :)

Las Vegas has a growing number of teams and i'm sure, an endless supply of places to hold a regional. It would also help to alieviate some of the stress on the four already full western regionals (LA, San Jose, Sac, AZ).

Also Wyoming would be a great place to have one, it is the center of the nothern states that either have no teams or have very few, it might give a little push to start teams in those states.

I wouldn't mind going back to London. That would be a neat place to have a regional.

This summer there were Little League games played on the White House Lawn, so it might be possible.

There's a regional in Cleveland, which is about an hour's drive from Sandusky.

The point is somewhat moot, though, because Cedar Point doesn't open until early May.

Sounds "Cool" to me. The Gila Monsters will be there.

Several years ago Johnny Carson and Carl Sagan proclaimed Barstow, California as the center of the universe....how about at the Barstow Convention Center?
