championship reservations

Did any other travel coordinators or main contacts get this message from FRC.

I have checked and I do not have any such message they are referring to.

Here is the message:

Greetings Main Contacts:

An e-mail was recently sent to all Travel Contacts regarding the
Championship Reservation Process. If you are registered to attend the Championship it is especially important you check with your Travel Contact to make sure he/she received this important e-mail!

Thank you.

Anyone have information?

Robert B 21-12-2002 19:29

I am a team contact and didn't receive the email in question.

David Kelso 21-12-2002 20:46

Hi Mike...
Nothing has reached Team 131, just outside of Manchester.

strange email

I am the main contact AND travel contact for team 341. I only received the main contact email. I have no travel info as yet. Probably an error.

HOUSTON HOTEL INFO NOW AVAILABLE..Yes, they sent it...embedded in Dec. 5 announcement

Hi Mike,

Go to your Dec 5 announcement from FIRST, 2nd paragraph, fourth line down
"target date is Dec. 23"

Easy to miss, I guess.
Anyway, RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE ON DECEMBER 26

The prices are WAY higher than I dreamed they'd be........
They are charging per person for the rooms, instead of just for the room.

3 night stays range from $160 to $239 per person
based on 4 per room
4 night stays range from $180 to $286 per person
based on 4 per room.

Includes breakfast coupons, lunch coupons, and 2 day Six Flag tickets, shuttle service to and from Reliant Park.

hotel pricing info

To: skrussel

I can not find the price information that you are quoting.

I checked the 12/5 email and the FIRST site and found no links. I also went to the meeting company site and found nothing.

Can you direct me on how to access this info. Thanks for your help! Best of luck this season!

hotel info

You can disregard that last request. I just got the email blast this morning. Apparently they missed some teams. Thanks anyway.

Was an e-mail sent out? If so, what did it say? Our team's travel contact is on vacation right now and I would really love to get the information before he gets back.

Wayne C. 23-12-2002 15:11

here is the link for the hotel rates

http://www.meetingcompany.com/firstc/

you can at least see what is available and shop around. Your travel coordinator needs to make the arrangements.

The prices are pretty good. It will cost my team about $250 less per student this trip than for last year's trip to Fla.

Thanks for the information. I don't know if this information has been given or not, but I have two questions. First, is transportation to and from the airport included? and second, is dinner on Saturday night included?

Cory 24-12-2002 03:15

dinner on saturday will be provided at the team "social"

Wayne C. 24-12-2002 09:19

It looks like transport to and from airport is up to the teams. Since each one has different arrangements it would be hard to get something central set up but maybe FIRST has a carrier arranged. No announcement yet.

Many of the hotels offer the service but at a fee. The Reliant Park is at the opposite side of Houston from the main airport- about 25 miles.

Just a quick question..... what about people who will not be staying at one of the 'package' hotels..... will passes still be available to attend the team social?

Warren Boudreau 24-12-2002 10:27

Weedie,
The current word is no. No package, no party. No options.
Maybe they will back down when they realize that about half of the teams can't afford their VERY affordable overpriced packages.

Ashley Weed 01-01-2003 18:12

I believe that I read that dinner is served Sat. night?... is dinner Friday night on your own????

Cory 01-01-2003 18:51

Yes, you will be left to fend for your own dinner on thursday and friday. I believe you had to buy your own one or two nights last year, but I don't quite remember

Wait, you mean you're calling what we had at Epcot last year on Saturday night during the party "Dinner"??? I think not!!!! That was like finger food.

Also speaking of the team social last year, I was shocked to see how much of a slob that the FIRST community was last year at the team party. I happened to look down at the Living Seas waterway that we walked over and saw a lot of empty lemonade bottles and paper plates floating in the water!

Can we try to be a bit more civilized this year?? Clean up after yourselves people, It's not that hard!!!

Kevin Ray 02-01-2003 01:23

I don't know if many people who think that the packages are too steep have actually priced and paid for all those things in Fla. When you add it up, it's not a bad package. Here is one that is about average:

Best Western: 4 nights stay- $239 pp.
Package includes:
Hotel accommodations for 4 nights
Thurs - Sat shuttle service between Hotel and Reliant Park
4 Breakfasts at the hotel
3 Lunch coupons to be used at Reliant Park
Two day Six Flags Ticket

I DO think that it is a very reasonable price, considering that by the time you paid for the hotel, Disney hopper pass, the $75 additional fee if you were staying off the Disney grounds, and the meal plan, you were paying at least that much--LAST YEAR!!

Disney obviously was going to charge much more this year or we would still be there. FIRST didn't want to have to reinvent the wheel: I'm sure that they compared the two costs to team members and this must have been significantly less or we'd be getting our pics with Mickey again this year.

Actually, I believe the main reason for the change was that Disney wanted to offer FIRST a weekend that would not work well, and they wouldnt compromise on another

Let's not turn this thread into a 'we aren't going to Disney because ...' thread. We've had enough of those already!

The championship was originally scheduled to be at WDW in May. As I understand it, various conflicts with tests and other school-related issues resulted in a flood of requests to "have the event earlier," thus the regrouping, date change, and venue change.
