Championships Filled?!

Surfing the FIRST website, I went to the page that shows how many teams have registered for certain events, and how many slots are left.

At the bottom next to the Championship Event, it said 238 teams were registered, and that there was no longer any openings. Is this accurate? Did they fill up nationals in just under two weeks?

It actually filled up much faster then that. After about 3 days, there were only a dozen or so spots left. The last ones just trickled in.

Remember, these are only for the teams pre-qualified for nationals (either by being odd, or based on points). There are still spots availible for teams who qualify this year.

i think this years max is set to 320 or something, they hope to get a lot of winners to sign up i think, maybe they will let some evens slip through who didn't win things. i know a few odds were allowed in last year

Yeah go odds!!!!

Yeah we had NO idea why we were invited to come last year. I mean we looked at the requirements and we didn't meet near enough to go. I guess we were lucky.

Rookie All Star Award - 967 Rockwell Collins/John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial/Iowa Fluild &Power /EHA/Kirkwood Community College/Bentley Manufacturing and Machine Shop/Linn-Mar Booster Club/Linn-Mar Foundation/Intermec Technology Corp. & Linn-Mar Community Schools - Marion, IA USA

I think that may have had something to do with it.
"Current year Technical Award winners at Regional Events (Driving Tomorrow’s Technology, Industrial Design, Leadership in Controls, and Quality Awards)" Rookie All-Star might be considered a Quality Award

Here is the criteria a team must meet to be eligible for the 2003 Championship:

Winning an award
  • Driving Tomorrow’s Technology
  • Industrial Design
  • Leadership in Controls
  • Any Quality Award(s)

Any of those will send you right to the Championship. If you do not win any of those awards, but accumulate five points during the season, then you are also eligible to go. Points can be earned by:

Placement during a competition
  • Regional or Championship Divisional Winner - 3 points
  • Regional or Championship Divisional Finalist - 2 points
  • Regional Chairman's Award Winner - 3 points
  • FIRST-Judged Award Winner - 2 points
  • Top seed - 1 point
  • Top Rookie Seed - 1 point

Close :p

For current year, you automatically go with those awards and:
Current year Regional Event winners
Current year Regional Chairman’s Award winners

Those points are for performance from 2002
