Favorite Airline
Ok, I just got back from florida (seriously, i walked in the door like, 30 minutes ago :p), and i've been thinking, what's everyone's favorite airline? give the airline, and why it's your favorite, and make it a reason beyond "they have good inflight snacks" :p.
me personally, i like jetBLUE. i've flown a few times (two or three years during christmas) and i've had no cancellations, some delays (out of jetBLUE's hands though), and leather seats and direct tv :). it's usually quick (tonight they were apparently swamped). on other airlines, i've had cancellations and other not fun stuff, and so yeah, as far as i'm concerned at the moment, jetBLUE has been the best airline. only problem (well, not for me), their hub is JFK. so, that's an hour from me, but kinda sucks if you're not in the area :p. |
I've only flown once in my life, so i'm not going to vote. I went on Northwest, and i still have my ticket!! (That was a cool trip too!)
|
When I used to live in South America I used to travel a lot to Brazil and the US. And I must say I really like Varig. They are very friendly, they le me in the cockpit and the food is also great.

Well, my family used to use Delta, but then we had some troubles with them so we switched to American. They had decent rates and nice planes. After awhile they messed up so we switched to United. Haven't yet had a problem with them (fingers crossed). Flew on a Northwest once, and had no complaints besides the plane being somewhat old. We found some really good rates on Continental one time. They were really good, but the normal rates were way to high for our pocketbook.
Being that Chicago is the main hub for United we are always able to get a staight trip to wherever we want to go without making stopovers. This bankruptcy thing is not going over very well with my family. |
I like United. I have pretty much flown with them all my life. they have nice new planes, good service, and i have TONS of frequent flyer miles:D (That is if they dont take em away:yikes: ) I have heard lots of good things about jetblue, and would like to fly with them sometime.

Midwest Express!!! Best airline ever, all First Class leather seats, and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies, great food, I had steak :D Excellent service..just a great airline...
|
The only airline I've ever flown has been Delta. I love them...then again I don't know anything else. My first time with another company will be in March when I fly Northwest...we'll see how that goes.
|
I've been on Southwest a few times, and the fight crew was so kooky... I loved them.
I usually fly Delta though, they make me feel safe. I'm not good on planes. They frighten me. Escalators frighten me too, but I digress. While we're on the topic of flying, I'm currently in Cah-nah-dah (:D) and I'll be flying home to Florida on Air Canada tomorrow. I'm really excited, I need my humidity back. It's so cold here. Like... brrr cold. *shiver* |

Midwest express al the way. Nothing better than the warm chocolatechip cookies. hehe.. and the salt and pepper shakers...:D
|
That one with the best safety record?
I usually fly Southwest, but I wouldn't say it's my favorite... |
Virgin Atlantic because it means I'm heading somewhere wonderful, like Scotland (it's going to be Ireland in 2004!). Plus they give you tiny rubber duckies .

Ian, ok thats the dorkiest (if thats a word) thread you have ever come up with :D
ATA is the best airline.... |
dj: thank you :p

Swissair is the best I've been on. The service was nice. they gave you hot washcloths to freshen up toward the end of the flight. The food was decent, and they gave out this amazing chocolate as we departed the plane. I think of that chocolate often.
The worst airline ever is aeroplot (Russian, used to be Soviet Airlines). The seats are crammed in so tightly that even a skinny little kid had trouble getting his legs to fit between the front of his seat and the back of the next one. The seats aren't even bolted down either. Come to think of it, I don't think there were any seat belts as well. There was no food or beverage service, and the stewardesses only function was to stand there at the entry hatch and scowl at us as we boarded. At some point during the flight, one of our tenors got up to use the bathroom only to find it full of stewardesses in the middle of a card game. They scowled at him and told him to go away. So apparently there is no bathroom service as well. The plane shook and rattled like it was about to fall apart the whole way. Scariest flight of my life. |

My favorite airline is the one that gets me safely home without crashing and burning on the runway, losing my luggage and sending it to the other side of the world, have me waiting in line for days, rescheduling or cancelling my flight and then charging me money for having to get another flight and serves something to eat on the flight other than leftover pellets that a stewardesses' child's pet rabbit wouldn't eat.
Actually I don't think I like any of the airlines. My least favorite is Delta. |
I've flown every airline on that list except northwest. I've never had a major problem with any of the airlines. I've had a few delays, but nothing bad, etc. Never had any luggage lost, although I have had it come in early ;)
Becasue of this, I evaluate flights by the amount of legroom. However, this even varies heavily among different flights on the same airline. Both the best and worst amounts of legroom I've had were on american flights. So basically, whichever gets me there the cheapest, which changes all the time. |
Commercial flight is overrated. Wouldn't it be easier just to drive to where you're going?
Ok, as you probably all know by know, Eddie isn't great with flying (commercial flight, that is. Tiny little airplanes that hold about 4 people and fighter jets are ok). I mean, I love roller coasters, but just the slightest bit of turbulence on a 737, and I'm clutching my large, puffy pillow completely flat against my chest. I also had a delay from Phoenix to Grand Junction in July of 15 hours. Sleaping in an airport, especially when you're by yourself isn't fun. And to top that off, on the way back to Phoenix 5 days later, it was major (and I mean major) turbulence on the Turboprop I was on. Keep in mind I had reinjured my knee and my trip was cut short 18 days, so I wasn't feeling to good then either. But that's another story. The point is, commercial flight is one of Eddie's only two fears in the universe. |
Air Canada all the way.
Later this year I'll be on British Airways and Air France when I go to Europe...we'll see what they're like. |
Actually I'm into the airplanes not the airline itself....the Concorde is such a beautiful plane. I praise British Airways in returning it to service. Delta is good, jetBlue and Midwest Express from what I've heard is better but America West, you don't know what those pilots have been drinking!

Yeah, I know....I had to cross check the slavic style of writing myself. The only reason is the pictures of a lot of the Russian Air Force's stragetic airlift transports are ones in Aeroflot livery (i.e. the first time the west sees the aircraft in the air)

For adventure value, you can't beat MIAT the Mongolian national airline. They mostly fly Russian airliners that are so old the Russians gave up on them. The English translation of the initials is Maybe It'll Arrive There.
You don't have to worry about having your seat in the "full upright and locked position" as it doesn't lock. Tray tables? what's a tray table? The unexpected look at the aircraft wiring as we went hurtling down the runway provided interest on an other wise boring flight. If the stewardess was unconcerned as she closed the panel that popped open, why should I be worried? Of course this is in a culture that admired a man who started laughing when suddenly surrounded by armed men pointing their weapons at him at close range. He said in effect "Go ahead shoot! sure you'll kill me, but I'll take 8 or so of you with me when the bullets go through me and hit the guy on the other side" Bravado does seem to count for something there. Then there are the flight delays due to fog, even though the fog layer is so low the control tower is in the clear. It seems they have this problem with animals straying on to the runway sometimes, so they don't take off unless the pilot can see the end of the runway. Hitting a sheep on takeoff can ruin your whole day. "Adventure is just a fancy name for trouble" - Louis L'amor |
I'm partial to Pam Am because my grandfater worked there and also he installed almost all of the domestic airlines first computer ticket booking systems (but he still can't type...its a long story) while he was at IBM. Anyway, there's a joke from the Vietnam War....sure maybe we'll get to fly today if we get this relict from the Mongolian Air Force airborne.....don't remember where I found that out.
|
I flew Air France to Paris when my team represented FIRST at the Paris Air Show. The food was good, there was pleanty of it and the flight crew was really nice as well. It was way better than any US carrier i have ever flown.
|
Varig - Brazilian Airlines !
Second only to me flying a NE-56 two-seater plane =) |
While Northwest has the best snacks of the airlines I've flown with (yeah for buttery pretzel bites and payday knock-offs), their little monopoly they run over at DTW and their otherwise crummy service and high prices make them less than desirable. Therefore, I'd have to go with Southwest on account of their service being decent, and they flight crews are usually entertaining people.
|
Well their overall business strategy isn't too hot either. That also includes other airlines now a days but NW also last time I checked has like two hubs where other airlines (major domestic carriers) have like at least 4! The removal of inflight drinks and peanuts (c'mon you have to have them, pretzels or what ever that airline's equivalent). Their decision to remove such services to reduce flight costs actually is turning away passengers!

I've flown a few times within a good amount of time, and I like American Airlines. They have pretty good service.
|
American isn't bad either.....it also depends on where you live. Like thw closest airport to me is Palm Beach International (only cause of the flights out to the Bahamas...but you could take a boat too! =) and alll the airlines above in the poll have one or two gates (okay US Airways has I think 4 but that's irrelevent) but Delta. The number of gates also translates into flight frequency to and from PBI....meaning I fly Delta because chance of me getting a flight to where I'm going is higher....and sometimes more expensive. I want my own Boieng 717 (with extended range a.k.a. high groos weight) or/and my own DC-9-30 =) . Therefore I fly myself...with plentry of passenger/cargo space.
|
US Airways is soo cool. We went to Florida last year during spring break and on the way home we choose to give up our seats twice because they overbooked and they gave us free airline tickets AND bumped us to first class AND paid for our food and room for the extra night we stayed. Best vacation ever.

Continental is pretty good, and Virgin Atlantic has a really nice 1st class on the overseas trips, but (thanks father for accumulating flyers miles) when you can fly two people on the concord for free, that's flying so my vote is for British Air.:)
