The vBulletin calendar system doesn't allow me to input time (h:m:s) only m/d/y .. so it would only count down to 12:00am. If thats acceptable, I could do that :)

I think vb3 allows time... so next season this wont be a problem :)

Anyone know how to count down to a specific time in JavaScript? I can do the 12:00 AM one but does anyone know if the exact countdown is possible?

Brandon Martus 03-01-2003 15:35

yes. someone mentioned something about a script they found (so you dont have to write it).

it was in the past 3-4 days... search back & see if you can find it. it was most likely in the website design/showcase forum or programming

http://www.jracademy.com/~jtucek/count.html is one that you could easily implement.

I had this problem with the calendar in phpBB as well. So I just went in and changed everything to accept the times. ;) Well I think you could be able to, but with the new VB, and only 15 hours left.. who cares!

I whipped up a page with a countdown script I found, check it out here: http://www.ajquick.com/kickoff.html

Hailfire 03-01-2003 20:34

10 hours 55 minutes and 30 seconds.

Central Standard Time?? Shouldn't the countdown be the same regardless of what time zone you're in?

The time left in Michigan is 8 Hours and 51 Minutes (counting on my Desktop Clock and after check-in)

Countdown n Java Script

On my teams website we have a Jva Script Countdown timer that is very nice, we go it off of a free Java site.

<script language="JavaScript">

hour(0=midnight,23=11pm), minutes, seconds:
setcountdown(2003,01,04,0,0,00)
/setcountdown(year,month,day,hour,minutes,seconds)/

var occasion="Manchester Kickoff"
var message_on_occasion="Go FURY!"

var countdownwidth='520px'
var countdownheight='35px'
var countdownbgcolor='#cccccc'
var opentags='<font face="Georgia" size=2 color=#990033><b>'
var closetags='</b></font>'

var montharray=new Array("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","A ug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec")
var crosscount=''

function start_countdown(){
if (document.layers)
document.countdownnsmain.visibility="show"
else if (document.all||document.getElementById)
crosscount=document.getElementById&&!document.all? document.getElementById("countdownie") : countdownie
countdown()
}

if (document.all||document.getElementById)
document.write('<span id="countdownie" style="width:'+countdownwidth+'; background-color:'+countdownbgcolor+'"></span>')

window.onload=start_countdown

function countdown(){
var today=new Date()
var todayy=today.getYear()
if (todayy < 1000)
todayy+=1900
var todaym=today.getMonth()
var todayd=today.getDate()
var todayh=today.getHours()
var todaymin=today.getMinutes()
var todaysec=today.getSeconds()
var todaystring=montharray[todaym]+" "+todayd+", "+todayy+" "+todayh+":"+todaymin+":"+todaysec
futurestring=montharray[mo-1]+" "+da+", "+yr+" "+hr+":"+min+":"+sec
dd=Date.parse(futurestring)-Date.parse(todaystring)
dday=Math.floor(dd/(60*60*1000*24)*1)
dhour=Math.floor((dd%(60*60*1000*24))/(60*60*1000)*1)
dmin=Math.floor(((dd%(60*60*1000*24))%(60*60*1000) )/(60*1000)*1)
dsec=Math.floor((((dd%(60*60*1000*24))%(60*60*1000 ))%(60*1000))/1000*1)
//if on day of occasion
if(dday<=0&&dhour<=0&&dmin<=0&&dsec<=1&&todayd==da ){
if (document.layers){
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.write(opentags+message_on_occasion+closeta gs)
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.close()
}
else if (document.all||document.getElementById)
crosscount.innerHTML=opentags+message_on_occasion+ closetags
return
}
//if passed day of occasion
else if (dday<=-1){
if (document.layers){
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.write(opentags+"Occasion already passed! "+closetags)
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.close()
}
else if (document.all||document.getElementById)
crosscount.innerHTML=opentags+"Occasion already passed! "+closetags
return
}
//else, if not yet
else{
if (document.layers){
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.write(opentags+dday+ " days, "+dhour+" hours, "+dmin+" minutes, and "+dsec+" seconds left until "+occasion+closetags)
document.countdownnsmain.document.countdownnssub.d ocument.close()
}
else if (document.all||document.getElementById)
crosscount.innerHTML=opentags+dday+ " days, "+dhour+" hours, "+dmin+" minutes, and "+dsec+" seconds left til "+occasion+closetags
}
setTimeout("countdown()",1000)
}
</script>

That will let you countdown to any event, just altering the first set of lines.

let's see who post the last

All right. Let's do a count down... All of you late nighters only get to post once the amount of time left before kickoff.

Let's see who gets to post the last. :P

7 hours 50 mins till kickoff start!

Brandon Martus 04-01-2003 02:24

I set a limit on it anyway .. so neener! :)

Once per 7 or 8 hours, I think it is.
(this applies to all 'game' type threads, like word association, etc)

Suneet 04-01-2003 02:46

7 hours, 14 min until kickoff.

/me pulls hair

:D :D :D

dlavery 04-01-2003 02:49

7 hours and 11 minutes!

-dave

Y = AX^2 + BX + C (you find out EXACTLY what this means in 7 hours and 41 minutes!) :)

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 21:56.
