Bins, Boxes, Containers?

Ok...

Now, not that this really matters, but what should we call the 'containers'?

I know that in the manuals they call them containers. However, since we are so used to saying 'balls' should the name have a 'b' like bin or box. I'm sorry, but i just don't think i can rattle off my toung 'container' like i can box or bin.

SO... vote! Whatever term is the most popular, is the one that i will be using in all the scouting stuff that i will be creating for the first community. :)

Jack

PS: You know, we don't have to say container just becasue that is what is in the book. :)

PPS: Do YOU call them something else?

Norm M. 04-01-2003 16:25

Tubs!

Tubs or Totes.

I happen to have 4 of these in the garage (and another 4 coming from Walmart- on sale now for $3.44!!). We have always called them storage tubs.

I would guess there will be quite a number of FIRST families buying coordingated storage containers this coming week...

RebAl 04-01-2003 17:33

I think box since they will be rivited shut

Jeff Waegelin 04-01-2003 18:47

I would say "bin," myself.

ChrisA 04-01-2003 18:48

bin all the way. it's the shortest and easiest to say.

Noah 04-01-2003 18:49

I say box, if only because it uses the letter X. (It's such an underappreciated letter...)

AJ Quick 04-01-2003 18:51

We asked the same question earlier today... the common concensus is to call it a "Tub" or a "Bin". Box or container just doesn't work for us. If you notice FIRST uses "containers" in all their documents.

I'll call them bins.

cybermind 04-01-2003 18:57

I think "bin" is the easiest to say. Container is just too long.

Andy A. 04-01-2003 18:59

I noticed that by the end of the night, many on our team were calling them balls. To many years of balls....

Otherwise, box has been the most used.

Spikey 04-01-2003 19:14

Tubs!!! :)

Useless member 04-01-2003 19:28

CAN: So when you win you can say... "we kicked their CAN". LOL

Joe Matt 04-01-2003 19:31

Bins all the way. Long live bins.

Clark Gilbert 04-01-2003 20:09

TOTE

evulish 04-01-2003 20:21

Go box! If you use bin, it could be confused with 'pin' or could seem to be short for 'binary.' I guess box could be confused for 'bots'...but ehh.. Bin, in my opinion, is like a barrel without a top. Then again, that's coming from my mind...so who knows :P

Hailfire 04-01-2003 20:27

bin.

PyroPhin 04-01-2003 20:37

Totes For Eva!!!!!!

A couple weeks ago there was a community college person at our site and she wrote on the board Zerox. At least she got the last x right.

Alexander McGee 04-01-2003 22:12

Bins

call them bins. thats what they are

Bduggan04 04-01-2003 22:14

How about Sterlite model #1730 73 quart Glacier Blue storage bins. Or we could just call them bins, but it would be funny to hear annoucer read off the first one.

Digo 04-01-2003 22:17

Manoel and I were discussing about it today and we decided to call it CAIXA. :D

In english I vote for box. Container is way too long, and we say A LOT the field and robot components' names during the 6 weeks, so I like the idea of having this little votation. :)

DanLevin247 04-01-2003 22:20

Bin. Definatly Bin.

Caixa? is that portuguese for bin or box. Maybe we could get that to catch on here. That is if I knew how to say it.

Alexander McGee 04-01-2003 22:28

Hahahaha, funny as heck. We just say "Box"

Dinush 04-01-2003 22:33

that's a great idea!

you will not hear me say any of those. No way. I don't like those names. Kufsa is what I am going to call them! (that's Hebrew for box)

Although, this is true, and all day today we called them boxes. I'm thinking bins, because i just can't see a plastic rubbermaid type thing as a box.:)

groves 04-01-2003 23:16

weve been calling them rubbermaids

yep

Where the heck did you see this? If they were riveted on why would it mention the tops coming off in the rules? I didn't see any rivets during kickoff...

And they aren't rubbermaids, they are difficult to find Sterilites!

BandChick 05-01-2003 08:55

whatever. the brand name isn't important. but it is in the manual that they are going to be pop-riveted shut. so thats why they say box.

"The tops of the containers will be fastened securely to the container bodies with plastic pop-rivets. Retroreflective tape will be applied to the human-player handled containers only."

The containers are also very poorly made, so they will probably break where the rivets connect in there too.

Joel Glidden 05-01-2003 13:20

I've been calling them buckets and sometimes ammo. =P

-Joel

sanddrag 05-01-2003 13:27

I use boxes for talking and bins for writing.

dlavery 05-01-2003 19:38

After dealing with them for way too long, I now call them

"those #$^%@$ %#% pain-in-the-@#(*%^% #**$% unweildy &^*(^ <:#^#^ volume consuming (^*&^(& square things."

-dave

Y = AX^2 + B.... ehhh, whatever.

Ricky Q. 13-01-2003 12:21

We call them Boomer Closets (BCs) around these parts, why? I have no idea, on of our engineers says it..I should find out that reason :D

D.J. Fluck 13-01-2003 12:37

I take mine back. I call them "Baby Storage" :p

Amy Beth 13-01-2003 12:39

i just find it wrong to call them containers when they really aren't meant to be "containing" anything.

Alex Cormier 13-01-2003 12:43
