A new record for breaking a drill motor
I am here to annouce that I, Zachary Dobbin of Team 686 manganed to break one of our drill motors only 15 minutes after opening the kit of parts. I was looking at the drill gearbox with the motor and all of the suddent the drill motor fell out and landed on the table before rolling off and crashing onto the concrete floor. One of the leads fell out and some plastic cracked resulting in that motor becoming usless. Anyone else have problems this early in the season?

You break parts, we break people.
We haven't had a competition without someone getting hurt. |
LOL I hope I don't do that when I inventory! Are the new motors any better?
|
lol didn't even assemble the robot yet and already breaking things. well that is a record 15 minutes, anyway i believe this years are much more powerful since there 1/2" drive this time
|
I think the motor selection is much better this year.
For starters, FIRST improved the old motors, making the bosch tougher (barring it being dropped) and by putting a usable output shaft on the Atwood motor. They also brought back the old Van Door motors, which were much better than the other low rpm output motors (It's got a metric shaft on it still:( ). |
Don't worry, I think there is a slight defect in the leads on the drill motors. We opened the box and one of the leads on one of the drill motors was off....I think they may snap back in easily.

I've actually this seen on the history channel (modern marvels:then and now). They drop Bosch drills from 3 or 4 feet when they test them. This is supposed to help it???????? I think you've found a new job.
:D It's true, look it up. |

Hey Zach,
Most people wouldn't admit to dropping a part but we can all learn from your experience. Round parts do roll and gravity can't be ignored! Either work on a table with raised edges or work on the floor. Oh well, at least you get to take it apart and check out what's inside. What are the rivets in the case for? We are guessing they hold in the magnets. What is the guage of the armature wire? Well the big day is here, did anybody sleep last night? |
what's funny is I haven't even looked at the kit since about 30 min after the kickoff. I've been writing a lit paper! fun. Well in our school it will be tough to find time to build the bot but it will happen. FEAR US! Go Gear Grinders! Sick'em WOOF!
-Andy PS. Even if the bot turns out bad (probably not) we will bring our cheerleaders and maybe the band! watch out! we're coming! |

I'll pass on wanting to see what's in there!

15 Seconds!!! That's my record for the darn Drill Motor breaking apart in my hands after I picked the stupid thing up!
|
mmm.. i tried to rotate the clutch, instead, took off the top and had the rings and stuff fall out. eh... very quickly, <1 minute... prolly about 25 seconds... heh... got it back together tho, not broken!

Check out my thread in the "MOTORS" area :D
I was checking out the drill motor this morning and the exact same thing happened...it just somehow slipped out of my hand, rolled onto the table, and then fell onto the floor, resulting in one of the contacts falling off and the flimsy piece of plastic holding it there snapping off Then I had to go tell my staff advisor what I happened :) |
