Sterlite 73-Quart Containers Modle#1730

Yes, the big bins in the play this year. ALL of the places near me a.) don't sell Sterlite bins b.) they arn't that size c.) are all sold out of them period. This might be a little tricky. I'll post more when I find some.

For teams in the Metro-Detorit area, we got our 29 bins. Here is a quote about current bin status:

We tried over 20 stores in the area. You can post on Chief Delphi that Walmart in Shelby and Sterling Heights has some. Sterlings Heights has about another 30 or more and Shelby about 6.

I have a feeling that there is going to be a shortage of the bins thought all of the US. :)

Yes

Yes

We got all our totes at Wal-mart @ about $5.00 a tote. Look for pictures of the TechnoKats having fun :D.

Alright, has any one else had this problem. we were practicing the best way to stack boxes, you know, stacking and then kicking them over. We started out with 15. There are now only 7 that do not have big gaping holes in them. These things are very fragile. What is going to happen when there are robots running amok and slamming into stacks of boxes?? I hope they have a Walmart truck sitting outside filled with these because there are going to be little blue pieces all over the field...

For Los Angeles area teams -- Wal Mart has the containers on sale for $3.44 -- sale lasts until tomorrow (Sunday, 1/5).

I bought 30 and the Long Beach store (605 freeway at Carson) still has lots available.

in the past FIRST has vowed to DQ any team that damaged a ball, goal or carpet- are they going to do the same with those bins?

DQ galore!

Stacy 04-01-2003 21:02

weight?

does anyone know how much they weigh??

There are 2 left at the Walmart near me on Long Island, we didn't buy any yet.

well, it says they will be disabled if it is INTENTIONALLY damaged. i guess its not our fault if one of them falls off of a stack and shatters to pieces...

DQ galore!

No one of ours student s talked to Woody directly and he said they expect to go through at least 5 or 6 a match with no DQ's for breaking them

P.S Stacy, They weight 5.10 lbs.

Joe Matt 04-01-2003 21:21

Why did FIRST pick something so fragile?

Alex Forest 04-01-2003 21:27

Sponsership perhaps??? Free crates? Something different?? THE EXCITEMENT OF DAMAGE!! bwhaha

sanddrag 04-01-2003 21:39

I've got some Sterilite bins labled 20 Gallons. Can anyone tell me for certain if these are the ones?

5 or 6 a match?

if a regional has 150 matches (including playoffs that's 750-900 bins

If there are 23 regionals and the championship event, that's 20250- 23400 bins. Whoa!

At 3.50 each that's $70,875-81,900

That's approximately 27 bins per team

No wonder FIRST is so fiancically strapped!

Check the number. If it 1730 and glacier blue you got the right ones. If not, you may want to take them back.

Elgin Clock 04-01-2003 21:51

SEE THIS THREAD AS WELL FOR DISCUSSION ABOUT THE CONTAINERS

Bduggan04 04-01-2003 21:51

For any team in the Auburn Hills, MI area go to Target or WalMart they have a ton of them. We got all 45 and so did another team soon after. I'm assuming Truck #68 got 'em cause they're right down the road.

They are green. Were purchased about a year ago.

Bduggan04 04-01-2003 22:02

Check the number then. If it's close to the same dimensions you could use it, but for $3.44 it's worth it to have the right ones.

Redhead Jokes 05-01-2003 01:30

Called all over town many times, found at wal-mart 20 miles away $3.44 a bin, not in blue color, many other colors, manager said they can't keep them on the shelves, and it's got nothing to do with robotics.

Lt. Smidgie 05-01-2003 02:14

The manual states the dimensions of the bins as 73 quart capacity, model 1730, and approximately 24-1/4" long x 17 1/4" wide x 15-3/4" high. Oh, and the color is Glacier (blue).

Cory 05-01-2003 02:20

Who cares about the color anyways? I say if you can find them, buy them. I predict a national shortage.

I don't know... the little hampsters powering your robot might get confused by the change of colors.

Cory

Most of the stores around here have them stacked by the hundreds. I can't see it being a huge problem for target or walmart. However, I don't know how many Targets there are in other regions.

Brett W 05-01-2003 10:16

My family has been using them for storage for years. we have about 50 stacked up and sitting around our house.

anish 05-01-2003 11:56

i counted roughly 350 of these bins at the cost cutters in Hillsborough, NJ.

Amanda Aldridge 05-01-2003 23:38

lucky you. the only place around here that carries sterilite and that size is walmart....luckily they had that sale, and it's january, so they always stock up on those types of bins, because people use them to store christmas decorations and the like. if anyone is having a problem finding them, check walmart.

johnscans 08-01-2003 18:38

for anyone on long island i know tat a lot of the hardwre stores here on the east end have or can order the boxes for you
