Max Users?

(sorry Brandon, i know you'll hate this pointless post :))

Well, right now the current users on CD is 90. The max is 107. Do you think it will be broken tonight? (or in the next few days) :)

Personally, I'm guessing about 120 by about 9:00 - 9:30 tonight. :)

Bduggan04 04-01-2003 20:33

I'm sure he'll answer this if he can read it before it's off the portal page. 5 people post replies while you are posting one yourself. It's really amazing.

Jack 04-01-2003 20:39

NEW RECORD - 108 !!!

I might change my guess. 150 by 9:30 :)

Dinush 04-01-2003 21:11

I don't believe it'll be up to 150. No more than 135. (think it is 120 right now)

Jack 04-01-2003 21:19

If i remember vB correctly, once there is so much traffic on the site that the server starts to overload, it will automatically shut down the boards for a few minutes. (Just like it did right before 9:00 PM)

Therefore, I'd have to say that whatever the max is now, it will be that way for a while. :)

PS: To overload a VPS, you have to have a hell of a lot of requests in a very short time. I guess that's what happens when you have 800 teams! :)

Brandon Martus 04-01-2003 21:29

Overloaded is an understatement.

We get 256 MB of ram on our VPS.
We used all but 64k and then I had to add that session limit the forums until I work something out. 75 users at a time until further notice. :(

Jack 04-01-2003 21:36

Holy Crap!

Wow! That's a TON of traffic.

I guess that when FIRST says that we now have 800 teams they wern't kidding. :)

PS: Does it turn away new users, or all? If it lets the current users stay (what i'm thinking) and just turns away the new sessions, then I'd like to remind people to not just keep refreshing their session to continue to have access. Once you've seen what you want, leave and let others get access. :)

PPS: (can anyone say ram upgrade? :))

In the past 12 hours we have had:
28 new users.
72 new threads.
226 registered users have visited.
143 of them posted today.
443 new posts.

And since midnight, 20213 hits. [175167 yesterday]

Jack 04-01-2003 21:49

um... I've got 20000 hits for all of Jan :)

Looks like there's a break in the massive flood. - My guess it there will be another surge at about 10:00 PM, get ready.

NTS: I know that we arn't supposted to carry on lots of posts quickly, but it's so... tempting. :) - There is so much to say!

Sorry Brandon, it'll be a Late Night

edit: Now, if everyone had a 56k like me, there would never be a problem like this. :D

edit,edit: ohh... Getting a little daring Brandon arn't we? 85 users? :)

Da... I have the new img too many pics in your post thing. I for some reason like to have a lot of smilies when i'm trying to be funny. The limit doesn't help me.

rbayer 05-01-2003 21:33

How's the new setup holding under 150+ users?

Brandon Martus 05-01-2003 21:40

Currently (154 users) we have 232MB of ram free. Last night, at 120 users, we had 15k free. :ahh:

I'd say we're doing a whole lot better :)

evulish 05-01-2003 21:42

This is amazing...this forum has almost beat a HUGE forum with the max people record. The other forum I occupy is linuxnewbie.org which hosts 45k+ members...their max is 176 people. CD only has a fraction of the members and we're at 150. I'm impressed :) (I guess linuxnewbie.org doesn't have very many usage-spikes...no major opening events in the world of linux :P ...maybe the 2.6 kernel release...hmm)

So when is CD going to beat the ARS Technica forums? They have 800+ users online _right now_ :P
