Pits....In a seperate location?!?!??!

If I'm not mistaken, Woody and Dean announced today that the pits would NOT be held in reliant park stadium, that in fact, they would be held "next door" at the astrodome...how in the world are they going to organize that???

Rob Colatutto 04-01-2003 23:17

i'd asume a very big tent like thing set up spanning between the two...with monitors and stuff so you know whats happening in both

Matt Attallah 04-01-2003 23:21

i'm not complaining! NO more fighting over space! YAY! :D

DanLevin247 04-01-2003 23:23

I understand your idea, but doesn't a major street seperate the two stadiums? And you can't exactly shut off traffic on major street in a major city!

Aignam 04-01-2003 23:23

Does anybody know as to how far it is between the two?

AJ Quick 04-01-2003 23:53

Well.. I don't know how accurate it is, but take a look at this map:

Jack 05-01-2003 00:09

personally, i'm not worried. I think that they will have a VERY easy way to get between the two. And communication, it really isn't any different than it was between the different tents at Orlando.

I really think this will be the best Champ. ever!

PS: This really should be in the 'Champ' forum :)

basically the same thing, shows entrances/exits a bit more. I assume there will be an open tent-like structure between the two.

Aignam 05-01-2003 00:19

Alright, thanks. Now it doesn't seem that bad at all.

Johca_Gaorl 05-01-2003 00:19

He said it would be a short walk between the two 50-yard lines, I don't forsee any problems. Calm down!

Collin Fultz 05-01-2003 00:36

that's probably why it took so long to get all the info out bout nationals. however, i doubt the FIRST crew would not have a really cool way to get there planned. i only wish cyberblue was going.

Raul 05-01-2003 00:40

Tunnel?

Does anyone know if there might possibly be an underground tunnel between the two structures?

SteveB 05-01-2003 02:13

Can you say Segway?

That would be the best thing ever, if each team was loned like 2 segways for the pitcrew guys, that would rock!

Alfred Thompson 05-01-2003 11:23

Segway is not likely

Yeah Segway loaners would rock but think about how many $5000 Segways that would take. They'd only be able to sell them as used after so they would lose a ton of money. 100s of thousands of dollars. I think that Segway and FIRST have better things to do with the money.

Yeah I was thinking along the lines of a tunnel or elevated walkway.

Mullen 14-01-2003 19:58

hmm, why not one of those escalator dealies that they have at airports? expensive yes, but its the lazy mans way of life

OneAngryDaisy 14-01-2003 20:32

can you just imagine if it rained?

walkway doesn't sound so feasible, eh?

Alfred Thompson 15-01-2003 08:58

People tell me that it rains a lot in Houston at that time of year. Somehow that makes me think that the FIRST people are likely to have thought about that. The people from the venue would have brought it up at the very least. They have to want this to work because it is a very good thing for them.

Moshingkow 15-01-2003 09:36

thats why they chose the reliant complex, it has a movable roof :)

AJ Quick 15-01-2003 18:25

I just hope everyone has a robot transportation device so they don't have to carry it all the way.

D.J. Fluck 16-01-2003 13:48

From the map, there is a minor access road between the astrodome and the Reliant Stadium. Im assuming that the Reliant Complex people will close off that section of road so teams have a clear path through. Im guessing the distance from the Pits to the fields is about the same as the distance from the middle of the pits to the einstein fieldd (if we were comparing this to EPCOT)

Aidan F. Browne 16-01-2003 22:50

These two pics should give you an idea of the distance -- they actually look quite close...
