Team 122 is done!

Yep, this kit is so great and simple to build with, we are done! Check these pics and vids out. Some are of Kickoff, some are of the damage the *cough* robot *cough* did to the bins ;), and some are of our completed robot, see if you can figure out what's going on with us crazy NASA Knights!

Note: Dial-Up beware, the reason there are three sites with stuff is that each site only holds 10MB, and there was like 27.9MB total pics and everything! If you know of a free place I can get like 50MB and up, it would be much appreciated.

uhhh

uhh is it just me or are a lot of the pictures repeated, so there's really only like 2 pictures and 1 vid?

Yah, all the links pointed to the same place (tried to save time with Frontpage, bad idea!) I just fixed all that, so try it again.

Frank(Aflak) 05-01-2003 00:09

wait wait . . . youre DONE?!

the kickoff was today!!!!! HOW!!!!!!!! RAH!!!!!

is this a joke?

Jack 05-01-2003 00:10

I have a 56k, so it took me a while to look at a few. But... from what i saw, the subject is a total lie. I mean, how much do you really have done? :)

Frank(Aflak) 05-01-2003 00:11

noo nooo, i saw an animation . . a gif movie, if you will . .

OF A FUNCTIONAL BOX STACKER . . . WORKING!!!!! IT WAS WORKING!!!!!! STACKING UPBOXES TWO AT A TIME!!!!! like, SIX HIGH?!?!?!?!?

Nu uh, look at our robot, stacking crates, knocking stacks over, it works good! There's also some Segway stuff in there too.

Thorin 05-01-2003 00:16

it seemed to only be able to only stack at the 4th/5th box level. Could the legs extend and retract more?

Joe Menassa 05-01-2003 00:16

i think thats your robot from last year

yea maybe we should modify ours to thresh containers

Frank(Aflak) 05-01-2003 00:22

yah, they couldn't build a bot in a day, right? Its gotta be last years . . . please?

oh, thats right, i died in my last post. I'll stop bothering you now.

It's their robot from last year.

ahecht 05-01-2003 00:37

That segway there looked a bit small. Is that the Segway P?

P for what? It's our custom-built 122 Segway, any suggestions for a better name?

use smaller resolution pictures. 1600x1200 is far too huge.. if you use 800x600 filesize is cut in half.. or 640x480. I've found that to be one of the best. Minimal scrolling for small res screens, still big and good quality for moderate to large screens.

Alexander McGee 05-01-2003 00:41

cool

a custom built segway? cool

Gadget470 05-01-2003 00:42

those gif's gave me a headache

Alexander McGee 05-01-2003 00:52

where do you learn to build one of those!?

Yah, but I was being lazy, and they came straight out of Dave's camera, to a CD, and then to this other CD... The gif's headachyness is just due to the fact that it's a really small amount of frames.

http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...threadid=15233

That should cover the info on our Segway.

Carolyn Duncan 05-01-2003 02:30

Funny how when I looked at the game the first thing I thought was 122 is done. That robot is the way I conviced some people on the team this year to go with a stacking robot, I hope anyway...

Rob Colatutto 05-01-2003 09:32

yeah...see that is a 2002 bot clearly, note it has no apparant way to pick up the totes, they just put one in the basket of their 2002 bot to play around with

Doug 05-01-2003 10:54

oh its been modified to pick them up as well

I would like to take this moment to remind you of rule "M1"

;)

cbudrecki 05-01-2003 14:51

funny, i remember seeing that robot last year!!!!!!

BoticsPUNK 05-01-2003 16:15

seems shady to me...

mhmh that bot looks quite similar to last years......seemskinda shady to me . Next time ease down on the picture size. i had to 5 feet away from my monitor to view them haha...

dixonij 05-01-2003 17:00

holy crap on a stick... that "segway" is awesome... in your last vid of it i thought it might have been custom built... what did you guys use? i wanna make one... anyway, thats some puncture hole in the bin

Justin 05-01-2003 18:32

My question...

Okay,

My question is is this "custom segway" made from only kit parts...if so I think that is awsome and 122 needs to be posting a how to ;-) ;-)

yes, maybe at the 4th/5th bin stacked level, but can it pick up a single bin lying on the ground?

Alex Forest 05-01-2003 20:45

Yes, it can. I thought there was some video of that...perhaps we shall speak to the videographer.

Joe Matt 05-01-2003 21:10

Actually, the only thing that wouldn't be used on a robot would be those wheels, though they might be legal, and it uses a PIC microchip for controlling the motor controllers.

Parts were all made out of legal materials I think (not entirely sure about the base)

Window motors power it, ones from the kit. I'll explain the rest later, maybe...

Fat Alex 05-01-2003 23:26

Team 60 is done as well

Hey we are done as well

just kidding we took an old robot to do the programming and see how the boxes fell. hope to see you all in houston

Johca_Gaorl 06-01-2003 06:40

Nice Ramp!

George A. 06-01-2003 08:39

The funny thing is, that robot is the same one as last year. What is the purpose of the basket on top?

Erinn888 06-01-2003 09:40

Team 60... where did you find the polyethylene for the top of the ramp??

122's Custom Segway

"My question is is this "custom segway" made from only kit parts...if so I think that is awsome and 122 needs to be posting a how to ;-) ;-)"

The 122 segway was a good pre-season project that
probably should be explained a bit. Our version was designed
to be as light as possible (31 lbs.) and as low in CG as possible,
(Plus cheap) There are currently three gear sets low, medium and fast. Low gear could pull a robot cart and rider no problem.
medium is easiest to ride, and fast is for hot doggin!
The gears and motor/wheel mounts are waterjetted aluminum.
The 1998/2001 window motors were selected because they are
thin and can be mounted with the lowest CG they are also a
little underpowered but you cant get everything sometimes.
The base is lightweight honeycomb aluminum sheet, the steering stalk and handlebars are PVC pipe and the battery case is Lexan
sheet. The wheels are cheap 12 inch diameter wheels with 1/2"
dia. bearings. larger Skyways would be better! (and they sponsor FIRST!) The standard robot battery at 17 lbs is the majority of the weight.
The controls are twist grip type PVC which acts on a set of Potentiometers through "O" ring contact.
The right grip is just like the throttle on a motorcycle so if you have "wheelie" experience you will feel at home. the left grip
steers the unit left or right. Once you get your balance
and spin left or right you can forget that you are turning and correct your balance with the right grip just as before. (This
feels great!) The pic chip handles the control mixing very well!
It is also set to interrupt steering in the event that you are fighting to regain your balance, which is very handy.

Until we get a site that has this Team 122 project on it you can
e-mail me at fahringer@widomaker.com for additional info and closeup photos of any area of interest!

We could really use a donated/traded left and right hand set of window motors with harness also!

We won the right to buy the ramp or half of it. We chose half of it.

Erinn888 06-01-2003 13:20

ok cool thanks

codeseeker 06-01-2003 19:30

Ya know what I think.....one of the pics with the tub that has a puncture hole in it.....pic #15.....it kinda looks like someone put a foot thru the container.....just a hunch.....but if so who in the world would do a thing like that?

Taiguy 06-01-2003 20:44

yea, but who cares if the robots already done!??:D

what about stacking bins ridiculously high, say hypothetically... 12 tall, trying to move it, and then watching it come crashing down on an unwary team member in a box... nah, feet are the last thing these bins need to worry about :p
