Do you have a problem with non-robotics members....
...being on this forum?
|
i really don't think that anyone is here that much unless they are invlolved with FIRST. (or was involved with first)
If you mean the Chit-Chat forum and how it has 'no-relation' to first, then no. The C-C forum is a great place just to talk about totally "cool" stuff with other people from FIRST. And now that posts don't count when there made here, it really doesn't affect the user's status. :) - Whee... PS: I'll give $10 (no... j/k :)) to anyone who can guess what my avatar is a pic of. - Trust me, it's the MOST random thing in the world. (or at least that's on my HD) |
nono, I mean the chiefdelphi.com website as a whole.

that would be a tape measure and a.... pencil?

A bonsai plant? Like the one in The Karate Kid?

Hey people, can we please stay on topic? lol, we digress way too much, lol
|
When has Chit-Chat ever even had a topic? Much less one that lasted for more than 5 replies?

Your mom jokes As far as non-FIRST people here: well, why they'd be here in the first place is beyond me, but kicking them out doesn't really do much to expand the competition beyond making us look like Hitler Youth with remote controls. |

Even if you still want to be on CD even without caring about FIRST, whatever (I don't know why you would), but don't jump in here and start trouble. Respect each other's opinions and don't flame. |

We were having our driveway replaced, and it's a mesurement of the width of it. So... yes, a tape measure a pencil to mark the end, the concrete and grass. - Nice job NTS: I need to find a better avatar. looking.. (And someday i'll get enough energy to scan a pic of myself. :)) PS: Sorry if this was a little off the orgional topic, but hey... It's the C-C forum. :] |
As far as I'm concerned, as long as the person isn't randomly flaming and causing trouble, there's no reason they can't be here. It's not like people would randomly stumble on this as just a site to talk, they probably heard about it from someone, which means they're probably interested in robotics. If we're supposed to be reaching out to the communities, cutting people off because they're not "on a team" is rather hypocritical, I think.
Stacia <- tossing in her two cents cuz this subject has gotten her screamed at in the recent past |
It's quite alright.
*thinks of Miss. Tree* From whom do we get some of the most insightful thoughts? AFAIK, she's not affiliated with a robotics team. Plus, andoutsider perspective is sometimes nice. And blocking outsiders would kind of kill the entire idea of the internet (not the original idea is still there, anyways *sigh*) As long as the people aren't causing trouble...there should be no problem. That really even goes for FIRST members. |
Oh, hmmm....*looks at the poll.....then thinks of a certain member who screamed at purpledaisy* Well, look's like I ain't goin' anywhere! Hee hee.....:D
|
what's up with this "they're not one of us"? Robotics people span a diverse group, its not exclusive. I'm not working directly with a team anymore and look, I'm studying poli sci and don't care much for science. But I offer my input where it helps when it can. As long as people aren't posting nonsense (we already know we can get enough of that from people on a robotics team :)), then kudos to them for learning about FIRST...I mean people wanted more exposure for FIRST right?

Some of us are not affiliated with teams because there simply are none close enough. Go look at the interactive map on the FIRST website and you will notice that there are no teams in the entire state of Utah.
I got on CD because it is one of the best resources available for getting to know the FIRST community and culture. I find it manditory to know a subject inside and out as much as possible before I write about it. I think it greatly improves the quality of a book if the author knows the subject better. You probably don't know this because you're new Mark, but I'm here and have contact with various FIRSTers because I am writing a young adult mystery novel based around a ficticious group of FIRST students (there's a serial killer in town and their mentor is the next victim if they don't stop it in time). I have been thoroughly looking at everything to make sure it is accurate. I even downloaded the new manual and competition rules Saturday evening when I got back in town (You think this is bad; I spent four months just researching the Oakland hills fire of 1991 for the last book I wrote). Sigh; what started out as a harmless novel has turned into an addiction. I (snif!) am a FIRST aholic! Believe me, if I had a team to volunteer for, I'd be there. Maybe next year when I am more settled here, I'll start one. |

I visited a friend of our who is a minister who went to Wilson Magnet back when FIRST and the X-Cats started out and was very shocked to hear that he thought the X-Cats were elitist. It seems there are kids at the school who also see the team in that light as well. It should never be that way!
FIRST isn't just for the kid getting straight A's, getting ready to go to a prestigious college, participating in PRISM, Masterminds and the Chess club. It's for the kid who's struggling with their grades and absenteism looking for a reason why they should even bother to stay in school anymore. |
If we want FIRST to expand, and grow, and mature, and become even more of a success, then we MUST welcome non-FIRSTers into our "family" with open arms.
If they are on this website, it is probably because they have an interest in FIRST (or just robotics in general), so why would we ever want to turn them away just because they aren't on a team? 'nuff said [Edit] Ms Tree! Best of luck on the book! [/Edit] |
