Hi all. Just went to San Jose Kickoff and saw the game of 2003 at 9am in the morning... Wow! What amazing changes to the game. A lot of people asked me the same question after we saw the game, so I figure it would be good for a question of the week...

Here it is...

Question 01/05/03: What's the top 5 things in your mind when you saw the game at kickoff?

Top 5 thoughts running through my skull
 

1) Human players on the field? Can you spell delay?
2) No drivers for fifteen seconds? Lego?
3) If FIRST has problems with thier robots, how are we going to do it?
4) y=ax^2+bx+c. WRONG. y=mx+b. RIGHT.
5) ...Overload...
...Overload...
...Impending doom...
"They're coming to take me away he, he, ha, ha, to the happy home withs bushes and trees and chirping birds and basket weavers that twiddle thier thumbs and toes! They're comin gto take me Away!"

1.) WOW!!!! tupperware...........
2.)oh god, is it an omen that FIRST's robots didn't work?

1) What is with y = ax^2 + bx + c? Total Lie!!!
2) Oooh, bins, cool!
3) Hey, 50mph bins!
4) Autonomous mode: neat!
5) More involving for the human players.

1) What kickoff? 14" of snow somewhat shut off power around here.

1)Ax^2+Bx+C is the right equasion. (how else can you get a curved line? Y=Mx+B is a liner...

Ax^2 = 4 robots on the Milk-Plastic

Bx = The Stacked boxes

C = Boxes on the ground...

But I did have 5 things on my mind yesterday... so I'll contribute


1) [12 noon] Wow. 50some people online. Cool.
2) [5:00pm] Im hungry. I'll go to dinner & buy some ps2 stuff.
3) [8:00pm] Woah. 120 users. Uh-oh.
4) [8:01pm] How can a webserver be working on 15k of memory. Oh. Its not.
5) [3:00am] Oh my. in the past 2 days, we have had 1/2 of the total posts in 1999.. yikes.

1) Wow, I think I've seen that idea somewhere...
2) Hmm... autonomous mode... that sounds nice
3) Oh, no! Now I actually have to program something!

1) I knew that sponsor animation was a clue!

the voices went on a rampage when i saw the game. but this is the general idea that i gathered from their ranting:

1. *blinks and stares in awe* :confused:
2. *blinks again* uhm... erm... uh oh...
3. *stares* bins...? what happened to the balls?
4. *falls over* autonomous mode?! that's not very nice. too bad for the programmers.
5. *stays fallen over and wants to sleep* i'm tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired. brain doesn't want to think through this now... (we left at 3am so that we could get to san jose by 5am *grumbles*)

1) I don't owe my team donuts. (I bet them all donuts that we would have some auto-control this year.)
2) This is going to be easy! - Crap - this isn't easy, this is going to be hard!
3) This is going to be more fun that I can imagine
4) Protect from above.... protect from above....protect from above
5) Everyone keeps asking for ice, now they have their own little patch of ice on the top of the ramp. DOH!

1) What's goona happen to our rookie team if FIRST's robots don't even work :(
2) How can our team representitive that talked on the stage forget out team Sponsor (TI Automotives) and our team number (1189) :confused:
3) This 15 seconds could be our doom

1) Ha! People worried about that thread for nothing...
2) Maybe we can use the boxes as storage in shop later...

Y=mx+b CORRECT

At the kickoff they siad the hint concerned the scoring, not the semi-circle on the floor! This means that

SCORE=BOXES*HIGHT+KING OF HILL PTS.

OR...

S=BH+K

OR...

Y=mx+b

Remember the variables can be any letter.

6)Does anyone see parts of boxes? We dented one just by dropping it. Remember destructions of the field results in a DQ.

By the way I hate parabolas.

1. It's 11 AM. I'm at work, selling pipe and missing the kickoff. I'm gonna go get some coffee.

2. Well, it's close to midnight. May as well check out what I'll be doing for the next six weeks.

3. Autonomous mode. Bad. Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. Completely not awesome.

4. Now why'd they go and put that polycarbonate up there? It's surface will get destroyed durning practice, totally ruining the plan. They so should have gone with Teflon.

5. Well, when push comes to shove, you can always succeed using a robot as a battering ram. Wonder if I can make it catch air over the ramp? *Evil laugh*

I seriously almost passed out when he said "autonomous control"...it was all in slow motion and such. It was crazy...

Simple version:

score = -Bs^2 + Bt*Bs + 25*Robots

score=y
Bs=boxes in stacks = x
-1 = a
Bt = boxes total in Scoring zone = B
Robots = # of robots on the ramp
25*Robots = c

That's the only thing I can think of as far as scoring, but it doesn't take into account a bin oriented differently. It's just a bins stacked upright and all nested.

1: Human Players don't have much of a job this year.
2: Yay! Something other than spherical objects!
3: Simpler than last years game scoring wise
4: That tall blue robot that took from the top of his opponent's stack and put it on his stck was hilarous (yes, that went through my mind)
5: Autonomous? Ack!

Not in any particular order, mind you.

1. Berlin Wall = separation except for up over & under pipe
2. 36x30x60=36x60x30
3. Smoke the pipe...nonono, go UNDER the pipe...
4. Hiding myself in one of the human containers, have a rocking time having my $@#$@#$@# kicked by bots...
5. Autonomous control?

Some of my truly random thoughts I had that saturday morning...

1) bash-fest :)
2) suction cups?
3) containers from Walmart?
4) there's gonna be lots of damage to bots this year

This is my first year. My thoughts at kickoff were...

1. It's been an hour watching a small TV and they havn't done anything cool yet.

2. I'm tired (pulled all nighter day before)

3. Cool they mentioned our poster.

4. How the hell are we gonna pay for this?

5. WHAT?!! A stack of 22. Eeeew.



btw those boxes break easy. Been 5 weeks and all of them have a large amount of duct tape on them.
