missing kit parts

We are missing both double cyliinoids, optical sensors, quarter-inch air tubing, and all the quarter inch air tubing connectors.

Is anyone else missing these parts, or is it just us?

FotoPlasma 05-01-2003 15:14

We're missing them, as well. Along with a few other things.

"Solenoids" are what you're referring to. Honest mistake. I don't mean to sound like a jackass.

Andrew 05-01-2003 15:17

I thought the optical sensors came with the EDU robotics kit. I can't remember seeing them there but I have to go to the lab to check, which won't happen til tomorrow.

We're missing a hole bunch of pneumatic stuff, all the SMC stuff. I thought that I heard that SMC pulled out and there would be an alternative supplier.

You don't. I was told what it was over the phone so I had no idea how to spell it :P

Not2B 05-01-2003 16:29

Whew... so we aren't the only ones with LOTS of stuff missing.

By the way, did anyone get EXTRA stuff in the kits?

Trashed20 05-01-2003 16:30

we are missing our whole pnumatics bag :ahh:

Rob Colatutto 05-01-2003 16:47

so are we, and our sensors...and our catalogs, no big book. whats with this?

Jim Zondag 05-01-2003 17:15

Router Fence

At the Novi Kickoff, My team got what appears to be a router table fence in a long cardboard box. I seriously doubt that this is what we should have gotten. We do not appear to have the 2" x 4" x 36" aluminum extrusions and some of the shafts listed in the kit BOM. Did anyone else in Novi get this same thing?

Benedictine1 05-01-2003 17:17

Yes- we are missing the same items too. We are rookies and glad to see that others are missing their parts too. Do we wait until Tues when we hear from FIRST?

The optical sensors come in a yellow (manilla?) shipping envelope, in the same box as the software and MSC's "Big Book" catalog, I believe.

These boxes were not handed out at the San Jose Kickoff, and were shipped to teams.

If I recall correctly, this is pretty commonplace with FIRST. Not to knock them, or anything, but it's true. It's not easy to manage the collection and redistribution of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars worth of equipment to more than 800 different locations throughout North and South America (and part of Europe, is it?).

Patience is key, but I have to admit that I was very worried about all of our missing 40 Amp self-resetting breakers, until I got a reply and clarification from Dave Lavery, himself.

jskene 05-01-2003 17:38

We are missing the same pneumatic stuff as everyone else, plus:
- Yaw rate sensor connector
- all software, including DVD of animations
- operator interface
- joystick controller
-operator radio modem
- connectors - 25 pin plus shield
- retroreflective tape
- 120 psi relief valve

Anyone else missing this?

Most of this i can't comment on, but the OI, OI modem, and the joysticks came with the Edubot.

BBFIRSTCHICK 05-01-2003 18:08

wow.....seems 1077 is having the same problem as a lot of other people are we are missing the pneumatics stuff and a lot of other things!

Greg 05-01-2003 18:47

We are missing a lot of parts too, including optical sensors and tubing for pneumatics, and other stuff that I can't remember right now. I wonder if all teams who attended the kick-off in Toronto are missing them, or if there was another box that we did not pick up. To all teams that have all the parts: how many boxes do you have?

We don't have an OI and joysticks either. Does this mean we have to use the ones from the EDURobotics kit?

To those who saw the EDURobotics competition in Toronto: WE are the team that dumped balls into their own goal :D I know this was stupid, but then we are a rookie team :) And they could have gone over the rules in more detail. At least I was not driving :)

Matt Reiland 05-01-2003 18:52

Your EDU robot should have came with a slip of paper stating that the operator interface was to be used for the main robot.

There should have been 2 plastic crates, 1 cardboard box, and your manual from the kickoff.

The optical sensors are shipped with the Big Boog from MSC, and the software Visual Studio, and file maker pro

Jordan 05-01-2003 18:59

Places to Check

Some of the stuff you all are reporting missing came together outside of the kit boxes.

FileMaker, VisualStudio, the MSC book, and our light sensors came in a cardboard box.

Your operator interface, power supply, and radio came in your EduRobot kits.

But don't worry, I don't have the rest of the stuff either! ;-)

rees2001 05-01-2003 19:10

you'll get it/got it allready

Most of the stuff you have or will get. We got the software about 3 weeks ago (includes animations) operator interface, radio, & joysticks came with EDUrobot (we got months ago some teams JUST got) most of the other stuff is in there... not sure on electrical connectors or valve though. We just got the extra sensors last thursday with the big book of everything on earth from MSC. FYI we paid the first day when we signed up. Other local teams paid last month & just got their EDUrobot. I hope for the best for all of you. GOOD LUCK!

Frostbyte 05-01-2003 21:48

missing

We were also missing all of our pneumatics tubing and couldnt find any of the sensors from our bags, We also were figuring there may have been a whole nother box or something that could have been given out or may be shiped? has anyone gottan ahold of first and any official word? going to try get intouch them tommorow..

I believe that the 120 PSI relief valve comes attached to the compressor. It is already threaded in the "B" port.

BBFIRSTCHICK 05-01-2003 22:03

Im hearing two things......

a:The sensors came in the KIT
and
b: The sensors came with the EDU robot...

which one is it??

Adam Shapiro 05-01-2003 22:20

We seem to be missing a lot of things. We are missing all tubing-related pneumatic parts, the keystock for the couplings, the entire software package, the sensors, etc. I don't know what happened but the kit seems to be really disorganized this year... Has anyone heard from FIRST on this?

The sensors came in a yellow envelope with the big book. It had a giant label that said "BANNER SENSORS". It was small and light, make sure that you kept them or didn't push them aside.

The sensors came not in the kit or the edubot, but with the MSC catalog which should have been delivered a few weeks ago, or should be at your school waiting for you on Monday.

We did not receive a yellow envelope when we got the Kit of parts. Yet, nothing deliver so far. We are going to need to Call FIRST.... :(

IT IS NOT IN THE KIT OF PARTS! It was sent with the big book from MSC.

Adam Shapiro 05-01-2003 22:42

We still haven't gotten our MSC book! All this waiting around is driving me crazy...

sanddrag 06-01-2003 00:58

We ordered an MSC book over the summer so we've got that already (their website is painfully slow)

What about the flexible shaft couplers? Where are they?

From the KOP Inventory, page 35 of 47:

"Pneumatics Kit, Cylinder, Parker | 1.5" bore x 8" stroke; rear pivot mount | 1 | Various"

This is the only mention of a pneumatic cylinder (besides two reservoirs) being distributed with the Kit.

killawattz 06-01-2003 02:45

more things amiss!

Along with above items not received , only received 10 of the 5/8 in. Torrington bearings, not 12 as in BOM. Missing 25 pin connector and boot also.
PS: 120#relief valve is on compressor already

If I recall correctly, 10 of the 12 bearings were packaged together in a shrink-wrapped set, and the remaining 2 were free-floating in the reclosable bag.

KrazyKarl 06-01-2003 12:25

The Team I am currently on has had the same problems.

-No O.I. (Unit, A.C. Adaptor, and Radio)
-No SMC Pnumatics Fittings:(
-No120 PSI Regulator:confused:
-No EDUBot
-No Yaw rate sensor connector
-Missing All software
-Niether Of The Joysticks
-No 25 Pin Connector
-No 25 Pin Connector Shield
-No Retroreflective Tape

Although We Don't have those parts we seem to have ended up with an extra bag of "Parker" (I Think) Brass Fittings.

This Is Rather Odd, As To Be Missing Some, And Yet Have Some Extra.

Hendrix 06-01-2003 13:06

Our electronic guys were dissapointed when we didnt receive any 12 gauge wire :(

Katie_269 06-01-2003 17:47

Where are our parts????

Our team just got done totally pulling apart the kit. We counted 20 different items that we are missing. Our team is pretty upset about it. I am not sure what the problem is, but I believe every team is going to need the whole 6 weeks to build a great bot. Hopefully this mess will be cleared up soon.

Katelyn

Adam Shapiro 06-01-2003 19:37

I made a list of all of the items we are missing. It fills a 36-line piece of paper! I checked today and we finally got our sensors as well as FileMaker Pro and Visual Studio .NET but we are still missing all of the other software. We still don't have any of the tube-related pneumatic parts and many other things! It is quite frustrating but I guess that it will all be sorted out by the end of the week which should be enough time. We plan to have a running drive system to test on by Saturday so I am hoping that everything will be figured out by then...

ebmonon36 06-01-2003 21:02

to KrazyKarl,
the O.I. and all of that stuff was in the EDUbot kit
eric b.

tatsak42 06-01-2003 21:27

Hmmm.. It'd be nice to have two of our motors... along with a bunch of the pneumatic stuff. And one other part, I can't remember... No reflective tape two years in a row... Missing.. ack can't remember again! (and memory goes downhill from now... too bad for me)

Adam Shapiro 06-01-2003 21:33

Luckily, we didn't get gipped (spelling?) on the motors but I did have some trouble after having taken apart the drill motor by accident (couldn't get it back together :D )... We got our reflective tape this year but last year FIRST ripped us off... Though they did give us some, it was about 2" long! Oh well, nobody really used it last year anyway...

I believe they are 10 guage wires, black and red.

Our team, too, is missing a lot of the stuff listed below

2 seat motors
all SMC pneumatics (tubing, fittings, solenoid valves)
vibration reductor and 120 psi relief valve (are they installed on the compressor already?)
retroreflective tape
gyrochip and connector
40 amp circuit breakers
all catalogs (except MSC), manuals

I believe IO, IO modem, IO adaptor and joystix came with Edu, and we can order 3 custom-made cylinders from Bimba.

Rickertsen2 06-01-2003 22:02

we r missing our solenoids, SMC fittings, Pnumatic tubing, 40A breakers, 25pin solder cup connector and matching shroud, sensors, filemaker pro, visual studio.net and reflective tape. I think ther are some other things also but i can't remember right now. We do however have 9 30A breakers( we r supposed to have 7)

mrobrien 07-01-2003 01:02

MISSING

we are also missing 25 pin cup and shield, the 40 amp breakers, the reflexite strip, and the SMC pneumatics. These things it seems like everyone was missing, so we aren't as worried about them as we are about these missing items:

2 5/8" ID radial ball bearings
3 Conductor shielded wire, 30' length, gauge 24
2 panel mount LEDs
1 giant muffin fan
1 Nut motor mount 10-32 X 2" SHCS (I don't know what it is but it's on the list i'm copying)
1 Nut motor mount 1/4-20 nylock
2 metric key stocks
2 flexible shaft couplings
2 worm gear actuators (1 left, 1 right)
2 flexible motor shafts (13.5" long)

software:
1 filemaker pro
1 microsoft front page
1 microsoft project
1 microsoft visual studio

I read through all the posts looking for info on these things but I'm tired and I couldn't find any definate info. Whatever things we haven't found out about in 2 days from this list we are going to contact FIRST about. please help if you have found any of these items with locations and possibly descriptions. Thanks.

Adam Shapiro 07-01-2003 20:26

Everyone should get the new update from FIRST. It contains a new list of parts and explanations for the where-abouts of many of the parts (yaw rate sensor connector, 40A cb's, etc.).

2. Metric key stock; fits the shaft on the CIM (Chiaphua/Atwood) motor only; size is 0.079” x 0.094” x 1”; 2 pieces
3. Reflexite retro-reflective tape, 6” sample
4. Various decals/stickers.
5. 40A Snap Action circuit breakers.

Adam Shapiro 07-01-2003 21:30

Damaged file? That's very odd..I just read it...

BBFIRSTCHICK 07-01-2003 23:23

We according to the team update FIRST will be shipping the missing parts out soon, at least I hope. and we can no longer use the Victor 883's.

sinper_joe 08-01-2003 07:41

Team 459 is also missing parts
we only havea couple of pneumatic parts
this is sad though because it (the missing of parts in kits) has gone on and gotten worse. also the qualty of the parts have gone down quite dramticly.
you would think that first could do better?

Dr.Bot 08-01-2003 15:31

No seat motors, though we do have the flexible shafts. Also - worried about the durability of the plastic gearboxes, some of them had damaged out of the box.

Are there seat motors - I see seat motor flex shafts - but I don't have them and I don't see them on the latest parts list.

So if this is right all the supplied motors require PWMs except the window motors.
So you should only need 7 PWMs if you use every legal motor.

We have the same problem. I sent a message to FIRST listing all of the parts that we don't have that they didn't reference in the update. We'll see what they say on the matter...

This is not the case. The manual originally had the 883's on the restricted parts list but the update made a point of "DELETE"ing all of those entries throughout the book.

I think your interpretation of the 'restricted parts list' is different that its intention. You should think of it more like you are restricted in size or quantity of the item rather than it is not able to be used at all. According to the Flowchart, if an electrical item is NOT listed in the restricted parts list, it routes you to the NO it can not be used decision. So Victor 883 are not to be used this year. I would order some 884 ASAP since 800 teams needing say 4 each will probably cause some delays.

Adam Shapiro 10-01-2003 07:32

Hmm...that is quite annoying... I guess we'll find out. I was planning on ordering extra 884's anyway, just to have.

Matt Reiland 10-01-2003 07:41

Yes it is quite annoying, I sent FIRST a message asking for better clarification in an update since many teams are thinking about it the same way that you are.

Here is the rule that is in question

K2
The Restricted Parts List must be reviewed when selecting “additional components” for use on the robot. If a part falls into one of the listed categories, then carefully review the items in the category to determine whether or not it is allowed. If a part category does not list the part you wish to use, then it is not allowed. If a part does not fall into any of the categories in the Restricted Parts List, then it is allowed. Additional components may be obtained from any supplier, unless otherwise
specified.

In the example speed controllers fall into the Electrical 'category' and since the Victor 883 is no longer there, it is no longer allowed.
I hope FIRST clears this up soon, even some of my teammates are reading it incorrectly
