Who has their 2003 robot complete?

Who has their 2003 robot complete? If not the entire bot, then the main base.

I think he is talking about actual this years robot (made in 2003). not last years robot pretending to be this years robot.

Doug 06-01-2003 21:05

dang jac i think they are on to us looks like we might not beable to get away with spending all that building money on a wild party like we planned

Johca_Gaorl 06-01-2003 21:08

Dang I was so looking forward to that NASA funded bash too...

Alex Forest 06-01-2003 21:12

well for starts you can say men again

HolyMasamune 06-01-2003 22:23

i doubt that with just student work people can finish by this point in time (considering it's only been 3 days since we got the kit). Maybe if the post stayed around long enough people will start posting what they have

mtaman02 06-01-2003 22:36

picture johnny5 from short cicuit.its related in some senses - a very small hint on our design

Tom Fairchild 07-01-2003 09:17

Oye, 122, leave it to you guys to say you're done after only 3 days. You guys are clever, but you aren't THAT clever. Have fun this year though, the game looks to be a blast.

~Tom~

P.S. Tell John and Jeff that I said hey and that we still need to go bowling.

Jean McAuliffe 07-01-2003 12:36

We haven't even received our kit of parts yet! FIRST said they sent them out Friday and Monday. Anyone else in this boat? I thought they were going to get here on Monday. Not a good way to start.

Yes.. Search around, there are a few threads discussing how others are missing their kits.

PiMPSHOW 07-01-2003 18:44

Well, we're done... although I'm not supposed to send around pictures or anything until our first regional.....

An no, I'm not telling what it looks like, or anything we used. :P

And we are 0.37 Kilos under!!! weee!!

WE ARE FIRST!!!! YAY!! Who will come second though?

mtaman02 07-01-2003 20:20

hate to say this but this isn't a race to see who builds their robot the fastest. :)

mainly how well u can build a robot with the help of many people, whatever funds is applicable to the team to build a robot and to build one with the part given to us by FIRST and all its surrounding sponsors. :) :)

:]

If your robot is .37 kilos, doesn't that mean it weighs less than 1 pound?

sinper_joe 07-01-2003 20:47

i agree with Clark Gilbert there is no way they can be done
its impossible

Alex Forest 07-01-2003 20:52

actually, he said that they are .37 kilos under, implying that he weighed .37 kilos UNDER 130 lbs. This would make him less than a lb under 130 lbs. Quite possible. (except for the whole less than a week thing)

And we are done too. For the second time. Pictures will be up soon I hope. :D :D :D

I think it is definately possible. I recall that one team, during an unofficial match, made a box out of wood and random wires with a processor and a light on it in the course of less than an hour. Now imagine a whole week! This robot could be outfitted with random pieces of metal making it weigh alot. I can make a big piece of metal with a light onit in a bout 10 minutes.

Doug 08-01-2003 14:02

thats right the shoe box sit in the corner and get 10 points bot!!! that was in richmond. minimum requirements. the entire point was to be in their first matches until they could get their real robot underweight. I think.

Alex Forest 08-01-2003 16:39

nono, richmond was WPI's bot, and they made it on PURPOSE to do that. Cuz they werent done. I think it paid off well.

Ryan Meador 08-01-2003 17:51

I don't want to point any fingers, since no info on these bots have been released, but the first thing that jumped into my mind was that there's no way students could have done that. On my team, students do almost everything... even several of the coaching positions are filled by students (such as myself). We're currently engaged in finalizing our blueprints. That is the speed at which teenagers work :) We've been meeting every day since the kickoff until 9pm to work on our design, with the group consisting of about 10 to 15 students and 1 or 2 professional engineers who are there for more oversight and less actual designing. I realize this observation could incite some nasty responses... I'm not saying this is how it is on your team, I'm just saying I find your completed robot miraculous.

Are you sure you're not on 696? My team is just like that.:)

clodhopper 08-01-2003 19:21

Its done! we have completed our 2003 Robot...---basic concept....

Jacqui Sutton 08-01-2003 19:23

or mine...388 is almost all students with a few proffesionals around to keep an eye on us..the way it should be :-)

Cory 08-01-2003 19:39

We are done!!!!

With deciding what we want the bot to do of course :D

To anyone who says they are truly DONE , I say you are not very smart. NOONE can make a good bot in 5 days. If you expect to be competitive with it (I don't know if you are serious) then you are in for a big surprise.

Since when has being done first been a good thing? Do you see anyone rushing to ship their bot first without testing, and good construction just so they can saythey were first?

(/ME thinks this is a little foolish)

P.S maybe this can be moved to Chit Chat for now, so it wont be taking up space on the highlights section.

Cory

Jay5780 08-01-2003 19:52

I don't know about a robot being done, but a functional drive train, team number on 4 sides, rotating light, and working controlls could be a finished robot and you could compete with it.

Alex Forest 08-01-2003 21:03

hmm. well i guess we should say that we COULD be done, if it was legal... you know the whole thinga bout not being last years robot or the years before that.... too bad....

OneAngryDaisy 08-01-2003 22:04

If those teams did finish their robots, the robots are probably just bolted together with duct tape or temporary screws until they finalize all parts- I know nobody could've welded and fabricated all their pieces in just two days....

PiMPSHOW 09-01-2003 22:44

Yeah well we have 26 members, 1 teacher, my dad - Said to be the best Industrial designer in Canada, and another dad who is an engineer, RapidRefrigeration - filled with engineers and designers, and me - the technical guy :D

Hopefully some teams will do what I'm hoping they will do so we can play the game at maximum efficiency :D

Oh, I'm a NewB to FIRST so I was JUST wondering right now about how many motors are we allowed to use, becuase I was thinking of proposing an idea to take somthing off our bot to add another thing which would increase the speed of what we do....

no one is on FirstClass right now to reply... so is anyone here?

Ahhhh, are you in the U.S.A. ?? becuase Canada now has this new product out for "putting things together". It's also gives the bot the ability to hit somthing and take the impact quite well so no internal parts get jossled around much.... I don't know if the company has brought it out in the U.S. yet...
