Personaly my greatest first moment was when we were in Philly last year and won the final round by 1 point. It was just so excited because it was our first, first place win ever at a regional.

Skitzosmurf already said one of my favorite moments.
Another one from last year was in the Archimedes division during qualifying. Ricksta121, our strategy guy, went around telling everyone on the team that he had figured out a way to score 180qp pts in the next match. He explained how we would go about doing it and we didnt think it was possible. We knew we had to score at least 60pts for our alliance and then go and help them. So we did this and we scored 66pts for oursel and we then gave our opponents points by going into their endzone. At the end of the match we were short because even though we gave our opponent points it didnt add up to the 60 they needed. Then all of a sudden the announcer came on saying that this was the highest score ever. He then went to explain that our opponents tether went under a goal. No one on our alliance had even noticed. The score...198pts for us. Ricksta121 was right. And to think.. we gave them points during the match. |

My personal favorite dates back to when it was legal to call a timeout before a match started if you couldn't get your robot working. Under "gracious professionalism" at it's greatest hour, one team after another called their official time out in sequence to allow all four teams to help fix a broken robot and get it on to the field to play. I feel if you came to play, I'm going to help you make it so. Thanks Dave and Chris for the reminder! |
I definetly think that the 2000 game had some great moments, the last few seconds of that match...4 robots reaching for that bar on that little ramp..WHEW..my favorite thing was at Mayhem in Miami we had a kind of the hill match. 6 robots fighting for the top of the ramp...what was intense, i think 3 of the robots broke thier lens covers in that one. Also in that year the finals were great, seeing that HUUUGE arm just taking balls as they pleased

My Fave
My favorite would have to be River Rage 2001 It was the finals With 151, 190, and 121 in one alliance agaist another really good alliance( soory I was never good with numbers) Any ways the high score kept going back and forth, higher and higher still, back and forth, finally after about 3 or four matches, 151 had two goal on the bridge and just enough balls to win in one goal, but there was this one black ball right on the top of the goal, if that ball had fallen we would have lost :ahh: It was very exciting

My greatest FIRST moment was being on stage at nationals (1997) and then being interviewsed by NESN after we got back.

This may not be one of FIRST greatest moments but it is my most memorable. The year is 2000 at nationals. My team (team 60) is doing an amazing job and are seeded like number 5. We are in a mad scramble looking around for who we went to pick, because we have been super busy all day with our robot. We make up a short list of teams we want to pick with our first pick. I belive the list was about 8 teams. We figured we would be good with that so we start looking for our second teir teams. We get our list finalized with minutes to spare before we have to go on stage. My best friend goes up on stage fully prepared, or so we thought. The rest of our team returns to the stands to watch.
We are all sitting in the crowd hoping that cheif delphi will slide down and we can grab them as a partner. While hoping for this we all were pretty sure it wasn't going to happen, because in our oppion Cheif Delphi was the best bot out there. The first pick goes and doesn't pick cheif delphi, we as suprised be sure they will get picked before our pick is up. One more pick, once again not cheif delphi. Our team is getting more and more stoked as they picks fall. Finally its our turn to pick and I am SCREAMING at my team that were going to get delphi!!!! There is no way that we can be beat with cheif delphi on our team!!!!! Our driver goes up to the mic and announces that team 60 would like to choose team 47 as an alliance. My team is going nuts in the stands! The representative from delphi gets to the mic and says that team 47 declines our offer......................... stunned. In the space of 2 seconds myself and my entire team goes from the highest cloud to the deepest pit. We had no clue what to think. So moving on our driver picks another team....... Declined again. I am sure most of you know how the rest of the story goes. I think we picked like 5 teams and were declined by every one. We had no clue what to think. Our driver is out of 1st teir teams. He picks our first 2nd teir team and finally someone accepts. Then on our third pick out driver pulls some team number out of his hat that we have NEVER heard. We are all freaking out and we talk to him and he says that he didn't wanna pick another 2nd teir team so he just picked on that he had seen in a match earlier in the day. Team 173 we were all amazed that he could come up with that up on stage and everything. Team 173 ended up being an amazing partner and played ever finals match we played. Then one of the low lights in team 60's history starts to unfold. You see we had this really smart idea that is we took an administrator with us to florida that we would get more school support. So that year we decided to take our Vice Principal. Well this brain surgen decides that it would be a great idea to tell cheif delphi what a huge mistake they had made. So he proceeds to team 47's pit without saying anything to anyone and tells them what iddiots they are, and how we are going to make them pay. All of this while the rest of people in the team that have any sense are getting ready for the quarter final match. None of us heard about this until after our quarterfinal match. Of course we are all dumbfounded on how a person could do something like that. Our drive team and coaches set out to find team 47 and hope they will accept our apoligy. Once we did find them they were all very nice and accepted our apoligy and told us how they understood that some people just get caught up in the moment. So there you go, not my favorite moment in my first career, but by far the most memorable. |

It was during the 2001 season. RAMTECH 59 was in the Galileo Division. We had to go back and forth competing with the other Galileo finalist because they kept on out beating our score. Yet in the end our alliance came out on top and we won the division. Took about 3 our 4 matches... One of the most intense feelings I have ever experienced.!!

I think one of our team's greatest moments was at Nationals this year. It was our first match on Friday, and we were up against two regional champions. Well, about 20 seconds into our match, our partner's battery got disconnected and they died on the field! We wound up winning the match anyway, by ourselves, after pushing our dead partner back for an extra ten points - it was great :D

Greatest FIRST Moment
In my opinion, the greatest series of matches was the finals in 1997, the inner tube game, between us and Chief Delphi. Delphi knew our opening move was to rush to the human and take on three tubes. Our scouting saw Delphi block the human against the Huskies in the semis (was on a different stage back in those days) so we had a pretty good idea what they were going to do. We choose not to beat ourselves up trying to get to the human, so at 3,2,1, go Delphi moved the ten feet to get in front of our human and stopped. We move to the center of the field and stopped. Both robots just sat there. Here we were in the finals for the National championship and neither robot was doing anything! Dean ran over to the sidelines and signaled Eric to come over to check if the Chief was broken. A ref came over to our station and asked if we were broken. As the time ticked down the emotions became more intense. All three matches went that way. The middle match had the two robots, each with three tubes, dueling over the goal and at the end everyone had to wait for a referee's decision who won. In the last match Delphi waited until about 20 seconds left before moving out.
All three matches were shown on the ESPN special that ran that year. (if anyone would like a copy of the ESPN program, let me know) A very vivid FIRST memory. Bill Beatty |
