Hrm... There are people out there coming to Sacramento for a regional. Who'd of thought? Anyway... Looking forward to seeing you at competition.

Matt D 13-01-2003 23:49

Team 254

Team 254 will be going to both Silicon Valley Regional and the Sacramento Regional.

See ya there!

Winged Globe 14-01-2003 02:50

Sacramento is new, and I think a lot of the teams are rookies who haven't made it to Chief Delphi yet. We (1151) will be there. I hope. Our high number makes it obvious we're a rookie team. We're going to Sacramento since SVR is so big already.

activemx 14-01-2003 03:13

MVRT

We will be attending both Sac and Silicon Valley Regionals... :D

Hermione692 17-01-2003 20:53

Stuff to do in sac

We have about 4 big malls:
1. Arden
2. Downtown
3. Natomas
4. Galleria
and a few more..tons of stuff to do, cool bowling rinks, and dining, clubs, ice skating, and tons more.

Any questions about sac?
Hermione

Cory 17-01-2003 21:44

We will be at Sac lookin for a win or tech award to qualify us for nats. Thats the main reason, and well be there for some FUN!!! We gotta do something cool :D. Watch out, if we get our act together, we might do pretty good!

Cory

srjjs 17-01-2003 21:50

840 will be at San Jose for sure, but our fundraising manager won't let us go to sacremento even though we have $7500 to blow. I will do my best to convince him.

Save it up for the Championship event, or for next year's budget to make a super robot :P. Tell that advisor I agree. ;)

See you at San Jose, if you won't be sending students to watch the Sac regional.

Hermione692 07-02-2003 14:09

Cal Expo

Even though there's no party this yr :( there is tons of stuff by cal expo. Across the street is Arden Mall, and there is the Crest Theatre, and it's the fair oaks area, so there are tons of stores and dining availiable :o) counting down the days,
Hermione

hacksaw692 09-02-2003 22:10

It's understandable that not a lot of people are going to attend Sacramento because it is a new event. Since Hermione has been letting people know of the other things that can be done here, I thought that I would include something else that I'm sure most people would appreciate.

In coming across the Krispy Kreme tread in the Rumor Mill, I just want to let people know that we have a Krispy Kreme about 5 minutes away from Cal Expo. So, now knowing that there is a FIRST event and a Krispy Kreme near by, this should get the people rolling into Sacramento. :yikes:

Hermione692 09-02-2003 22:23

:)

Well said Hacksaw! :D

Eric Reed 09-02-2003 22:39

De Anza High School will be there! And we love Krispy Kremes.

Eric

Ken Leung 03-03-2003 15:31

Sac Regional is less than a week away

Just want to bring this thread back up again. Sacramento Regional is happening less than 5 days away! I am very excited to going to a rookie regional and check out how things start the first year!

I will be there starting Wednesday afternoon! Although I won't have the red hair, I should have a little badge with my picture and my name on it. Look from me at inspections and maybe the scoring table!

Hope to see everyone there!

Cory 03-03-2003 20:26

We will be there wednesday afternoon as well. The less wimpy members of our team will have orange hair. we are staying at the Heritgae Hotel. anyone else staying there?

Cory

Halon 03-03-2003 22:17

Team 662 will be staying at the Radisson Hotel (1.5 miles from the event IIRC). We've got a swimming pool there if anyone's interested.
Who else is staying at the Radisson?
Also, what is the weather like in Sacramento? Warm enough to bring shorts? We've got snow here in Colorado.

Patrick Wang 03-03-2003 23:48

Depends what kind of day it is :)

No snow down here sir.

I'm sure it'll be nice weather for shorts. But then again I wear shorts everyday down in Cupertino :)

I'm glad we're actually going to have some room to manuever this year. This will be our first out of SV regional.

Gun 03-03-2003 23:58

you will see team 253 and it's robot at the silicon valley! SEe ya in
24 days and counting!

Hermione692 04-03-2003 01:41

only three more days now :D
the weather is quite chilly, we never get snow though.
I'd say it's too cold for shorts.
-For thurs:
63°/41°
-For fri:
63°/42°
-For sat:
65°/43°

hope this helps :D and can't wait til it starts,
hermione

activemx 04-03-2003 02:00

if there some wireless access i will broadcast live images through webcam.. though ofcourse.. i will be updating everynight with pictures.

hacksaw692 05-03-2003 01:19

Oh so close...

Must... last... through... one more day. *heaves a heavy sigh*

Wednesday is going to be so hard and so long for me. I even drive by Cal Expo on my way home! I seriously cannot wait!

Let's make Sacramento's first regional a blast!

Hermione692 08-03-2003 21:05

WAAAHOOOOOO!
That was a great regional. I'd like to say thanks to all the teams for making it so much fun. I will never forget the YMCA or the chicken dance, or the guy in the Kilt :D
It was so much fun!! Thanks to everyone!
Hermione

They did it at VCU too. The refs were really getting their groove on.

David Brinza 08-03-2003 22:42

Results?

I've always believed Sacramento was a "black hole" for tax dollars; I didn't realize it is also a black hole for FIRST results.

Why haven't any of the scores been posted on the FIRST regional website?? After >4 hours after the regional was completed, the official FIRST website still indicates "Data not yet available" - even for the qualification matches held the day before the finals.

I'm gathering some statistics regarding how teams have won in the regional elimination rounds. Several teams in other regionals have won on QPs, despite coming up short on a straight point differential! (This hasn't happened in the regional finals - except maybe in Sacramento??)

You'll see them again at the Silicon Valley Regional later this month.

Cory 09-03-2003 01:31

Sacramento was so awesome. I wasnt too sure about how good it was going to be, being a new regional and all, but all I can say is that was the smoothest running, and very very fun FIRST event I have been too. Anyone who went to Sacramento and is going to another regional will have a huge advantage. 8 practice matches with 2 rounds each, and 14 qualifying matches. We all have 2 regionals worth under our belt. Did anyone see theose rookie teams? wow... they were good. Congratulations to 692,662, and 1147. good job you guys. I was so happy to see someone beat the Cheesy Poofs and 599. It was especially cool that one team was made up of all girls.

Cory

FotoPlasma 09-03-2003 01:45

I had such a fun time, at Sacramento. I was queueing for the Red Alliance side of the field, which was very fun, despite not being able to specifically watch too many matches, and having to stand up for two entire days... heh.

I got some good video of the dancing (YMCA and Cha Cha Slide). If anyone's interested, I'll host them somewhere, and post links.

Congratulations to every team who attended and participated. Many thanks go out to the awesomely cool FIRST staff, Innovation First, and everyone else at the event. Thanks to team 481 for taking it upon themselves (afaik) to digitize the entire regional event, team 22, Chattsworth, who was not competing at the event, but had a huge amount of volunteer supprt for running the event, and even more thanks to everyone else who had anything to do with it, including everyone cheering in the crowd.

The event was just so much fun, I'm sorry it had to end so soon.

:)

Dirty Harry 09-03-2003 03:18

Sacramento was AWESOME! I seriously have never lost my voice cheering for anything...not even school rallies or sports teams. I guess FIRST really can bring out the inner loudness of the most composed guy at Jesuit High School.

Anyways, thank you to our alliance team members and congratulations to all the winners!

fuubar 09-03-2003 12:45

Congrats

We at team 295 were happy with our results and our ability to overcome so much hardware failures and last minute system changes. (had to switch a 5' pnu cylinder witht he 8' kit cylinter, burned out both drill motors, burned out both drill gearboxes, bent a front axle at ~30 degrees, and our robot controller got jarred loose during a match). Despite everything we managed not to miss a match.

The fembots were awesome we are glad to have been beaten by the best. It was such a close round but your strategy of jarring us loose from the ramp at the last second worked. Congrats on the win, I hope to see ya in nationals.

The regionals were really fun (and loud!). I had a great time despite breaking my finger on the last day.

P.S. I never would have thought spirit sticks could be so entertaining.

How could i have forgotten? I talked to you guys all the time and i even have a button which i was wearing yeaterday as i typed up my post. Ahh the sleep deprivation must have been catching up with me. Anyways, you can contribute all of the noise polution mainly to St. Francis and Jesuit. Everyone there knew of our (Jesuit's) spelling chant and the one where some guy gets half naked and is hoisted up while screeming about his mojo (i did that twice). And, out most infamous one, "You can't stop us....."

-Kesich

hacksaw692 09-03-2003 18:29

Oh man! Sacramento was indeed one of the best. I have never screamed so much in my life. And I thought St. Francis's homecoming week was loud with 800+ girls jam packed in a gym. There were only 26 for this. Sheesh... Most of us lost our voices and I'm in choir!

Speaking of choir... I had a choir competition in Sac State (Golden Empire). The rest of my team made me miss it so that I could stay and drive for the final rounds. It was well worth it, I must say.

My team is insane. Chicken dance... YMCA... the Cha Cha Slide... My gosh... lol.

Thank you to all the teams that attended. I was almost afraid that this regional would go down the hole because only 27 teams attended. But those 27 made it a complete BLAST! It was great! And thank you to teams 662 and 1147 (we're their mentors) for an awesome alliance.

Next event: Silicon Valley here we come!

Now, now, Frodo, you know you would've stayed ANYWAY. Told me so yerself! Said something along the lines of "I wish I didn't have to miss finals for choir"...and ya didn't! :D Feel special! And I still can't speak...it sucks...ah wells...screaming is FUN! *grins goofily* And hacksaw...if we weren't insane, imagine how dull it'd get! *twitches at the thought* Sane people *shudder*...okies, the more insane of us is out! Gotta go take a 2.5 hour calc test soon *sigh*...

Gollum

Oh yeah! HIHI to our alliance peoples! You guys rock! EEEEEEEEEEE!!! *bounces around screaming again...despite having no voice* I am not a freak of nature! Really...ah, shaddup! *wanders off*

It is great to see 254 win a chairmans. They have done SOOOO much for FIRST.

Also no huge suprise to see chatsworth doing something amazing for first. EVERYONE at that school is soooo totally amazing.

Last but not least, Ken L your an amazing contributor to first. Give yourself a huge pat on the back.

Yes, absolutely. KenL deserves a LOT of credit and appreciation for all of the effort he put into running the regional.

Ken, all of us who attended, at least, owe you so much. You're one of the few reasons that the regional went as well as it did.

Congratulations!

:)

Ken Leung 10-03-2003 21:18

?!? Did I do something? ;)

Without the support and effort of everyone at the regional, I couldn't have done what I did, and Sacramento wouldn't have been sooooo successful. I thank all of you for a great weekend.

Five words: funnest weekend of my life. Sacramento will always have a little special place in my heart (and in my feet... never wear high heels to a robotics regional!). Mebbe that's because it was our first regional ever as a rookie team. :) ALL the teams that came were so supportive, it was amazing.

Wow. I'll be gushing for years. :p

alphagrl2 03-04-2003 01:46

What we need for the Sac regional is more teams. We might not have it next year unless we get more teams so please sign up next year all future rookies and current veterans. Sac regional should continue cause it's tight like that, yo.:D
