The only problem w/ Brinkster is that it's impossible to connect to your database, but you are allowed to (p.s.: if anyone has any ideas on how to do this, please tell me)
If you go into the filemanager on the right there are several buttons. One is a drop down menu with "Examples to Install". Click on it and choose the Database one. Making sure your Database is in a "db" folder and is an Access one, you should be able to use what they have to connect.

Anybody know of anyplace that will give me 1.5GB of bandwidth/month? :D That's about what robbayer.com is on track for right now, and I still have several planned updates to RoboEmu in the near future...

www.freeservers.com i think it it is...if not, PM me and I'll give you the link. It's supposed to have unlimited bandwidth/space for free.

I just checked, and the free plan is 12 MB, with 256KB file size limit.

I also need a 1.5+ GB plan with at least 30MB size limit.

Edit:

I was checking Google, and found http://www.angelcities.com/

It has a 100MB size free plan. 600MB a month and 20MB a day banwith, and a 1MB file size limit.

30 MB size -> Brinkster...general (a.k.a.: free) plan is 30, more you pay, the more space you get (all plans are the same (12.95)). About the bandwidth, still try Brinkster.

Brinkster doesn't have very much bandwidth at all. I had a site there once which was constantly blocked because of the bandwidth usage.

Most free hosting (including Brinkster and freeservers.com) are limited to .5GB/month. Unfortunately, I'd go through that in 10-15 days at my current rate. Oh well, I guess I may just have to break down and pay $8/month eventually...

Try not to go free. You should actually be able to find expensive hosting for free, with no ads.. if you ask the hosts if they will host your school site for free.

I have done this for our site, and got quite a number of offers.

www.freewebs.com is GREAT--though they don't provide FTP--and you can get a short redirectional URL from .tk. Type in yourdesireddomain.tk and if it's not used at the moment, you can register it. This will work with IP's and long url's.

edit:
They only allow 100 megabytes a month. Can't your school host the first site for you?

Well, I'm lucky then :D. My site doesn't use up much (if any really) bandwidth, on Brinkster.

Petey -> [My school doesn't even know I exist probably. Plus, my school's server sucks]

Yes, but then we'd have to do everything with FileMaker Pro for their Mac G4 servers. Also, due to the severe paranoia of our network people, we'd have to submit all changes to them, have them approve it, and then post it if they ever feel like it. Also, the school's rules for stuff on their servers is that it has to be compatible with Netscape 3.0 (yes, 3.0!) and has to have the district logo on EVERY page with a link going back to the district home just as often. Let's just say our web admin isn't exactly a "people-person". :ahh:
