Portland Communications (www.portland.co.uk) is a nice, free server, has all the things that you will probably need, and no banners. The bandwith allowed per month is a bit low if you have a lot of video, but other than that its great.

www.brinkster.com is a very nice free server with no ads and it provides free ASP service! yeeha!

Brinkster is not all that great

I think Brinkster is pretty good. Free 30 MB of space is always nice. And it runs ASP. Can't complain....

Yea, but the space is used up pretty fast if you add programs. Plus, there's not to many decent scripts out there for it, but there is for PHP.

Thnx for the replies
I found a good server that also allows FtP access but not that great.

The thing about ASP that I like is that you have to do a lot of things yourself. There aren't any real ASP Forums out there, and it is a nice challenge to design your own. Very easy to tailor to one site too.

Yea, and if you already know VB, your basically on your way (sure...different syntax, but it's basically all the same). The only problem w/ Brinkster is that it's impossible to connect to your database, but you are allowed to (p.s.: if anyone has any ideas on how to do this, please tell me)

sweet... free hosting? bye bye, angelfire/tripod. If they offer PHP support, we are set.

If you are referring to Brinkster, they only offer ASP, and just ASP...but later in life they may take one of the server-side scripting languages (besides ASP)

Try not to go free. You should actually be able to find expensive hosting for free, with no ads.. if you ask the hosts if they will host your school site for free.

I have done this for our site, and got quite a number of offers.
