We thought that at first too (1999-2000). It was so easy to create, layout, and share. But it is entirely cumbersome to create and use relationships. Programming anything complex is a nightmare. I can only guess the extreme headaches FIRST is going through writing the scoring system in FMP!

FM Pro 6 has one, repeat one, useful feature: Script step "Execute SQL". With plug-ins this was possible on earlier versions of FMP. On the side we've developed a Front-end GUI for quickly editing fields in FMPro. But in the background there's a SQL Server managing the data.

If you have any Q's drop SOAP a line.

Because of hte way access stores the image files, you will not see much of an improvement by compacting and repairing the databse. What i usually do is store hyperlinks to files on my hard drive. This keeps the "net" size of the database down. If i store a 100k jpg in the database, it increases the size of the db by about a meg.... go figure :)

Hey Tom!
Maybe I have an old email, but I was trying to see if you would be able to digitize any of the regionals you attend this year...

Thanks,

Filemaker = Pimp

We are using filemaker this year ( #710 ) and we havn't had a problem, we've done some pretty intense stuff with it, including Real Time Game stats )

Its a little Tedious but we've worked on it in tandom and got It down pat in a couple hours work ( does help tho when you have a mentor who's been using it since the late 80's )

We'll have all our scouting on palms and Game scouting on a laptop in the arena for keeping stats on the teams which are playing

this will equate to real quanatative formulas into what we hope will become our BCS poll Ranking system ( based on robots efficiency wrather than the first point system )

BCS = Bot Categorization System

The info will be ready available for all at our Regionals ( and if we make it to our national even )

well we make our own scoring system tailored to each new game. rating based on match score is kinda silly i think. everyone should design a scoring system that will rank high the type of robot they want as alliance partners
