robotics trivia

 Robotics Trivia

Rules:
I will ask a question.
Someone else has to respond with the answer.
You may not reply to a question made by someone from your own team.
Questions must be related to your team history.
Once I reply saying that an answer was correct, the person who guessed the correct answer can ask another question.
The game keeps going forever...this is my theory

Lets begin!

Question #1:
What does SPAM stand for? (Remember, no one from team 180 may answer this question.)

---
Jon from SPAM, team 180

EddieMcD 12-01-2003 17:03

S=South Fork HS
P=Pratt & Whitney
A=I believe means "and"
M=Martin County HS

Proving that I have no life.

kewlkid382 12-01-2003 20:01

Good Job!

SPAM means
South Fork High School, Pratt & Whitney and Martin County High School

Now you ask a question and when someone guesses the correct answer, tell them.

---
Jon from SPAM, team 180

kewlkid382 13-01-2003 15:47

OK, then I will put out another question.

Question:
What is the name of the red piece on the front of Fluffy, SPAM's robot from last year?

---
Jon from SPAM, team 180

rbayer 13-01-2003 21:56

You're going to have to streamline this whole process if you want it to work. People generally don't come back to threads unless something new has happened. One possible suggestion: have the person who answered the question ask a new one without waiting to find out if it is right or wrong. This would make it so if one person leaves the game can still go on. Just my 2c.

kewlkid382 14-01-2003 15:55

I just wanted to try making a thread. I didn't care if it worked. Go ahead and post questions. Whether this game continues, I don't care.

EddieMcD 14-01-2003 18:51

I thought it was my turn to ask a question.

Let's see then, since Eddie's teamless, I'll have to ask something about FIRST in general. Ooh! I got one: What year did FIRST make tipping other machines over illegal?

JVN 14-01-2003 22:04

1998,
after Rhodewarrior had some fun in 97 breaking TJ^2 over and over again. (or so the story goes)

What FIRST team (from NH) has been in FIRST since 1992, but remains unrecognized as a "12 year team" due to a sponsor change?

chellyzee93 15-01-2003 18:08

What was dean's first invention?

EddieMcD 15-01-2003 18:10

Hmm... wild guess on this one. I'm going to say 16, Baxter Bomb Squad. Again, wild guess.

Quote:

I believe it was the automated syringe.

Mullet 15-01-2003 19:19

I have no question. I just have to say it is great to see a member of FIRST also showing he is a proud WWE fan. Too bad it is the Hurricane.

Oh well, no one is perfect.

The team was from New Hampshire....BBS is from Arkansas...

My guess is 811

My question:

What device on the Kokomo High School robot of 1992 was banned from future FIRST competitions to this day?

Katie Reynolds 15-01-2003 19:58

Throwing projectiles (corn from the playing field)?

EddieMcD 15-01-2003 20:44

Ahh.. classic FIRST bots...

Quote:

Ew, I missed the NH reference in the Q. Lets see here: Chaos(131) is recognized, so I gotta go with 501. I'll also throw out 40 and 238 just because, well, I can.

Doh! How could I forget about 131....Thats your answer

The only recognized Original teams: 19, 45, 126, 190, 191, 250

LOL>------you have that power?

How many teams are from MI?

Jeff Waegelin 16-01-2003 17:31

There are 84 teams from MI. Which state(s) has/have more?

EddieMcD 16-01-2003 19:46

I believe New York has more (most of them came in the 2001 season).

Im not sure of the other one but since 1992 was the rookie season of FIRST, 126 is one of them.

kewlkid382 17-01-2003 01:35

Wow!...

...I didn't think that anyone would really post anything. This thread is now two pages long. I feel very special...so...anyways, enjoy asking questions.

DJ, you are right with your list of recognized teams.
131 is not the team I was looking for. Although, you got 2 of the digits right ;)

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure if 131 is 12-year or not.

AlbertW 17-01-2003 04:32

Then lets try my original guess before I changed it to 131.

811?

Nope,

I think it's an obfuscated "hrt."

Correct!
151, then only known as the Nashua High School team was one of the original participants. However they changed sponsors in 93 or 94 (I think) and are now no longer recognized.

mav 28-02-2003 18:40

What are the only 4 teams remaining from the 1992 season? Who won the Nationals that year? Who won the 1999 and 2001 UTC regionals?

Brm789 01-03-2003 15:04

Anyone else notice that the questions aren't being answered? I'd answer but I'm new and don't know anything.

Devin L. 12-03-2003 10:05

i know that Gael Force won the 1999 and 2001 UTC regionals and that Gael Foce is also one of the teams remaining from 1992:cool:

Josh Hambright 12-03-2003 11:30

we are originally team 10 (BAXCAT), but we lost sponsorship one year and changed our name (and number). The sponsor came back after that one year.

We've still never missed a year.

Actually, in 2001, FIRST handed out these limited edition pins to members of the 10 year teams, and my pin has teams 19, 45, 126, 190, 191 and 250 on it. Those 6 are the originals. 45, 126, 190 and 191 are classified in the team program as rookie season of 1992

Ricky Q. 16-03-2003 10:21

Alright, let's break out another question:

Who were the teams that scored the highest score in the nation in 2001, and what was that score? It happened at MMR, and I know there was a higher one at IRI, but we'll disregard that :p

EddieMcD 16-03-2003 15:29

I'll toss in that Beatty team... I think 111 might've been part of it too.

Score: wasn't it, like 810, or something like that? (as you can tell, this is all off the top of my head)

D.J. Fluck 16-03-2003 15:31

Jeez talk about bloating ;)

71, 269, 234, 111 and 112

with a score of 716

Ricky Q. 16-03-2003 20:29

Ehh, the two answers combined are close, DJ has the teams right, with the score being 710 :p

Team238-aholic 16-03-2003 22:32

wait...lets go back to this NH thing....

are we sure 238 wasn't one of the first FIRST teams...remember, the numbers back then changed every year....

and i know our sponsor has changed like every single year....

plus the first FIRST competition was at our high school....

I don't think thatis right... FIRST started on the East Coast, and there were not that many teams the first year were there? In addition to that, I am almost 100% sure that 100 was the first West Coast team to join FIRST, and that was in 1995.

In 2001 the shirts said that the B stood for Bolder!! eh.. minor technicality!

Ok I got a question, What team number are "The Clockstoppers"?? I seriously don't know this one but want to so I can negotiate my way to getting a shirt from them!
