GIF Images

It would be really nice if the forums allowed GIF images to be stored on the server as my 1 image... I can post the same image as jpeg but in order to keep the file size down (and not piss every1 off) I have to lose a lot of quality... :-(

For the 'MyFiles' area?
I'll set it up to allow gifs.

Try again 5 minutes from the time of this post.

not sure really at all what you are talking about. However, I do know one thing. If the images are going to be re-sized, then the script that does that might be illeagle. Becuase the format of gifs is patiented(sp?), scripts that deal with gifs may need to pay a useage fee to the owner. I think that the patient may expire soon though. Could someone refresh my memory on this one? :)

Everything you could ever want to know about the evilness of gifs: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/gif.html.

That said, I suppose I should probably re-do my website since it's all gifs thanks to Front Page...

The only time would run into problems using a gif would be if you are writeing custom code for it. (Ex: GD in PHP). FrontPage has paid the company for the rights to be able to write in gif format. Besides, eventhough gifs are still widely used, I wouldn't be supprised to see them fade out over the next few years. (As the new W3C HTML/XHTML/DHTML standards come in to wide use)

PS: This is not a spam post, it actually has some meaning and is correcting an error. :)
