Last year with the soccer balls we broke out two or three windows for about 50ft away. It really seemed to piss off the MotorSports people who share our building, because one day after the competition we found all of the balls with large slashes in them from where someone had taken a knife to them. We also had a few minor injuries from playing basketball with last year"s field, one goal, a soccer ball, and rolley chairs for all players. :D
As to this year, the most we"ve done is broken a cieling tile and bent the metal strips that hold it up. I"ve almost killed a few stupid people, but that"s beside the point.

It seems that this year is a much more dangerous game, and I hope that all of you who try launching never manage to launch a box into the crowd.

last year, we were in quite a hurry to work on the robot. People were pissing me off, so I was working kinda fast and angrily. I was cutting a piece of angle iron with a hack saw, and as soon as I cut through, I was mid stroke going forward. to sum it up, deep flesh wound on my forefinger that hurt for a looong time (it still hurts if i push on it) but that diddnt stop me from working. bandaids wouldnt keep all the blood in so what did I use? paper towels and duct tape!! aaah the improvisation of the heat of the moment....

A team member (longwaytofall on these boards) brought in a potato cannon and we were playing around with it. Yangotang threw a piece of potato off a balcony and hit another one of our team members in the face.

Hmm... I have about 5 cuts on my hand that's healing... bunch of splinters too.

stupid drill-bit

well, we officially had our first injury of the year today: my pinky finger. bleh, I was trying to tighten the thing on the drill press that holds the bit, and the chuck slipped, and so did my hand, right onto the really sharp part of the drill bit. Hurt like heck, and bled quite a bit, too. But oh well, washed it off, slapped a bandaid on it, and I was back and working on the same drill press and piece as I was before in less than 5 minutes :D lol

I AGREE! That would totally suck to be sitting in the audience of the competition, and out of no where this great big blue iceberg tub wails you on the head. I wonder what Woody would think about that... Maybe I'll post something on the general forum about it.

wheelie-bot

we were testing our robot controls with our practice bot and we tohught it would be fun to take raides on the back. well after a few trys we tries a wheelie on an unsuspecting rider. needless to say, he fell off after an almost 45 degree wheelie:D

Not an injury, but a few sore shoulders and heads: we initially were testing angle of impact on the stack with team members just running into them. that ended quickly.

field and drill

Well, our first problem was that one of our team members, who believes that smacking thinks with sticks always solves the problem, was 'fiddling' around with one of our drill motor (trouble already). Of course, somehow, he popped out the pin, and since we didn't know where it went, we put it in a baggy which got lost. Now we, have to make him fiddle around with the other motor and pop out that pin, so they'll both coast, udstead of one breaking, resulting in a turn at the end.
Our injury happened today. I was helping to move the wire mesh for our field (which all we need now is carpet and space), and my finger got caught between two pieces of mech, one that we were moving and one that was stapled in.
well in the end, I nearly broke my pinky, and got a purple nail with a sprained pinky.:(

When a liquid contains a solute, its freezing point is lowered and its boiling point is raised. By how much is dependent on the solute and the amount. Your Regular Cokes probably had a lot more corn syrup or whatever than the Diet Coke, which uses a lot less of a lot sweeter substance.

It's kind of suprising that there isn't an overwhelming amount of injuries at competitions. Afterall, the machines that we make could easily rip somebody to shreds. Hopefully, "oops" won't be heard very often in the pit this year.

during our meeting yesterday the fire alarms went off because people were working on the school and set a birds nest on fire while welding. right after the alarms went off it sounded like a huge pile of metal poles fell down the stairs...still don't know exactly what it was
Yeah how about having fire alarms go off every five minutes because of a malfunction. It isn't fun trying to get stuff done when your going death.
I myself have a habit of bleeding on the robot. It's quite odd though because they aren't even big cuts but a large amount of blood comes out. I believe the worst injury was in our rookie year when someone had his finger crushed by the robot.

the reason for my name

I have a story from last year. The weekend before we left for nationals I was playing softball and sprained my ankle (which also pulled off a piece of bone with the ligament). They gave me a hard plastic brace, and everyone decided to call me gimpy and hop-a-long. gimpy was the only one that stuck. so now some of the returning people know me as gimpy.
