Girls/Guys

Who's the sexist singer out there?

chellyzee93 17-01-2003 15:21

Shakira

Raven_Writer 17-01-2003 15:27

I think I should've posted mine when I started this thread...it's Avril Lavigne (sp?)

FotoPlasma 17-01-2003 15:39

Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead.

AdamT 17-01-2003 16:55

Weird Al

David Kelly 18-01-2003 00:01

Faith Hill

Raven_Writer 18-01-2003 00:12

To many to add, but mainly anything Alternative/80's (weird, I wasn't alive for most of the 80's)

Props to Avril, she is very pretty...but have you ever seen her "live" she's terrible in any live tv broadcast she's on. Shows you how much time her music spends on the editing room floor.

Also, she's a huge fake. She says she's "punk" when she couldn't be further from it.

I like her music, not her style (well, her style to, but hey). I've never heard her live, but all live songs sound messed up. Take Linkin Park for example, you can't make out a word their saying because the guitars get more amp than their mics.

Vocals being overpowered by your guitars, etc. is a lot different from not being able to keep a tune....

The "messed up" sound of a live performance is improv. It's the difference between studio acoustics and arena acoustics, between one take and fifty, between using loops and live drums. The one person in a band I don't give slack (live) is the vocalist. Just my $.02.

Ben Mitchell 18-01-2003 09:15

The Corrs > all

Faith Hill is O.K.

Jewel is O.K.

I laugh at the song because of her mocking 'em. She's really just playin around...and you can hear someone say "What the..." at the beginning of the song.

purpledaisy 20-01-2003 14:03

I saw the live performances by Josh Groban during the 2002 Olympics, and on PBS. I think he did quite well. The only thing I didn't like on PBS was that they didn't get Charlotte Church to duo in "The Prayer".

Hott singers? How about all the guys from NFG, The All-American Rejects, Mest, Sum 41, SEV, and Kurt Cobain!

OH and Avril Lavinge is POP! She is not punk. Her music is alright, but you cannot confuse the 2. Punk sounds nothing like pop. The only reason why people think she is punk is b/c of her style. She owns like 564345 wife beaters and the average "punk" doesn't wear wife beaters all the time. By the way, has she ever worn an actual T-shirt before? Like with sleeves?

Yes she has. I got some pictures on my comp. that I can e-mail anyone that doesn't believe me. My e-mail is pprkut3k@wideopenwest.com. If you listen to her song "Unwanted", it's the only hard-rock song on the album. It is punk IMHO. It actually depends on your definition of pop and punk. You can count kid rock as pop, rap, or others actually.

Avril agitates me.

I was watching the MTV Video awards, and I forget who she presented with, but it was like they were trying to have a competiton for who could care less about the whole darn thing in general.

The girl next to her mumbles about half of the words she was probably supposed to say, none of them very coherent, and then Avril walks up to the mike, and is like "yeah, what she said".

I don't think that is punk, or pop, or anything. I think that is just pure flaming butthead.

So true.. Yeah.. I don't like her.. "punk" style.. She is trying to win over audiences, and stand out by being different.. but she is a POSER.. And if I see one more girl with a tie on, I will scream..
COME ON GET YOUR OWN STYLE..

YES!

Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos. I have only seen a few pictures of him, online, so I can't really tell if he's particularly physically attractive, but you're $@#$@#$@#$@# right about your "dark brooding boy" description of him, just from his lyrical style.

Desaparecidos seems to be a lot more active, and less brooding than Bright Eyes, but it's still great music, so that's a moot point.

I think I'll listen to Read Music, Speak Spanish, right now...

illumanat'i 03-02-2003 22:23

looking the part is part of the whole music thing, but in the end its all about how it sounds, and avril isn't good....
sure, her songs sound good the first time, and okay the second, but after 150 in a week, every week, it just plain annoying

(my 3 cents)

i agree, i kinda feel she is like linkin park... too many people like them...its not a bad thing, sometimes people complain about that. that is what drives me crazy... people have diffrent ways of enjoyment and by chance linkin park and avril appeal to more people. so what? stupid people dont become famous for no reason. even if they are we are pretty stupid too.

:ahh: oh my!!! someone else in this wide world listens to saddle creek bands!!! i am amazed and happy. enh, i find him attractive, but have also been told i have bad taste in guys, but well, at least the next time i'm in the lab and someone on my team says i listen to stupid music i can point out that i'm not alone in liking it. and yeah, desaparecidos are also amazing from what i have heard on the saddle creek page.

You're definetly not alone in liking Bright Eyes. I know that for sure. As for liking "stupid" music, I'm used to hearing that. I listen to many different kinds of music, and not all of them are liked by my friends. Some think Aphex Twin is stupid, some think The Doors are stupid, some think Bright Eyes is stupid. Oh well, people like different things. Heck, right now, I'm listening to some lounge-style Latin Jazz...

Brandon Martus 04-02-2003 07:14

/me looks around.

I've never heard of Bright Eyes.

I like Desaparecidos.

I like Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, and others. I prefer lyrical meanings over the looks. Avril has some good songs, Linkin Park has heavy riffs, and also some good songs.

Lyrical meanings? Do you mean some kind of "meaning" hidden in the song that's really beautiful and poetic?
If you mean the meanings of the lyrics, I couldn't disagree more. I prefer either songs with no words or songs I don't understand. (Korean, Japanese, etc.) That way you can listen to the music as if it is just music.

sometimes i listen to wierd songs because some phrases appeal to me..some songs are just a"wow" liek they siad the words i wanted to say at the moment... meaning coudl range from a deep philosophical thought to "i hate this world" or something of a sort.
