Drill motor wobble?
ERrrm, we have a small problem.. After attaching the transmission to the drill motor the shaft develops a slight wobble. Nothing very very bad but still pretty bad. I have made sure the whole motor is mounted straight and the shaft is in a straight line. Anybody know of a way to fix this problem?

Is the gearbox attached? Does the output shaft of the motor wobble? Have you taking the gearbox apart to remove pins or such?
Lots of questions before anything can really be said. -Andy A. |
wut do you mean take the gearboxes apart to remove the pins? There are pins? eh? Please send directions or a link please? Help much appreciated. The output shaft of the motor has no wobble. The gear box is attached.

Our wobbles also. I don't think it's anything you did. i think the part that were sent in the kit aren't exactly on center. Ours was about .005-.010 out. It's not much but it can be enough to make things wobble. If it's a big problem then you may have to machine your own. We even had to finish machining the ones that were sent to us. They forgot to ream the hole.

We had a wobbly aluminum coupling half too.
We decided to set itaside as spare & ordered another. CA 487 |
We also had the out of center Al cupling, we made a new one, also, seems like the quality of lots of things are lacking this year

Eeek, AHHH! We just tried the coupling too (in our chippy-Drill mating box) and WOW are they off. We'll have to make our own too. I'm disappointed.

I am so glad ours are not the only ones. Now I can use this thread as an excuse for my junky alignment.

The reason the hex peices are off is because of the plastic coupling. Near that plastic thing in the middle the edges warp out a little, and not the same on all sides. the way our team(me) resovled this problem what to remove the plastic from the center of the coupling(so you could shove a hex shaft all the way threw). Then I stuck the part that connects to the motor in so all the hex part was hidden. Now the other one will end up sticking a little bit further out but its ok cuz what you just did is shift the coupling over a bit.

Ehhh. As my physics teacher says it is close enough. It is close enough so that it works but not perfect. Btw I do not think this is an accident considering almost every signal team has this same situation(including ours).

ya we had the same wobble problem but it only happend in low gear and went away in high speed
