Notice that the poll asks whether the name should be changed to rumour lathe, not rumor lathe.

Lathe? bah, who needs lathes? just chuck the part in a hand held drill and have some one run it on high. Pull out your cut off bit (leatherman flat head screw driver) and have fun.

Instant (cheap) lathe.

Anywho, Rumor lathe does sound cool...

It was 'Rumor Mill' before I got here.

It was rumor mill at National back at 99'... A big piece of paper on a stand in front of Chief Delphi's pit area... And beside it a poster of all CD posters' picture, about a hand full of them I would say. You will have to ask all of those posters before you make a change to the name "rumor mill".

It's just a tradition you can't easily change... Its like the definition of a "meter":

The meter is the length of the path traveled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299792458 of a second. (17th CGPM (1983), Rés. 1).

Or the definition of a "wheel":

Main Entry: 1wheel
Pronunciation: 'hwE(&)l, 'wE(&)l
Function: noun
Usage: often attributive
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hweogol, hwEol; akin to Old Norse hvEl wheel, Greek kyklos circle, wheel, Skt cakra, Latin colere to cultivate, inhabit, Sanskrit carati he moves, wanders
Date: before 12th century
1 : a circular frame of hard material that may be solid, partly solid, or spoked and that is capable of turning on an axle
2 : a contrivance or apparatus having as its principal part a wheel: as a : a chiefly medieval instrument of torture designed for mutilating a victim (as by stretching or disjointing) b : BICYCLE c : any of many revolving disks or drums used as gambling paraphernalia d : POTTER's wheel e : STEERING WHEEL
3 a : an imaginary turning wheel symbolizing the inconstancy of fortune b : a recurring course, development, or action : CYCLE
4 : something resembling a wheel in shape or motion: as a : a round flat cheese b : a firework that rotates while burning c : a propeller on a boat
5 a : a curving or circular movement b : a rotation or turn usually about an axis or center; specifically : a turning movement of troops or ships in line in which the units preserve alignment and relative positions as they change direction
6 a : a moving or essential part of something compared to a machine <the wheels of government> b : a directing or controlling force c : a person of importance especially in an organization <a big wheel>
7 : the refrain or burden of a song
8 a : a circuit of theaters or places of entertainment b : a sports league
9 plural, slang : a wheeled vehicle; especially : AUTOMOBILE
- wheel·less /'hwE(&)l-l&s, 'wE(&)l-/ adjective

Hmm... Well, maybe not as big as the definition of a wheel...

As much as I like lathes, I really think Rumor Mill sounds better. Sorry.

skrussel 21-01-2003 19:34

Aw, Geez! Is NOTHING sacred??

Why do you want to go and change 'The Rumor Mill'?
That's what it IS...a rumor mill. Old and venerable term. Not a lathe....a mill.

max 21-01-2003 19:42

name

yes, please chang the name of rumor mill!

Mercutio 09-02-2003 00:15

What about the low-budget teams?

What's all this with mills and lathes? Who has any of that? I'm thinking "rumor drill press" or "rumor 3/4-inch wrench."

PureMachine4 18-02-2003 20:34

new name

Here's a name we could move to THE RUMOR BLENDER (a bunch of crap but well respected ideas/comments put into 1 area.)

Pin Man 19-02-2003 00:09

I'm not too sure on this one. I don't think I would change it but that's just my opinion.

PureMachine4 19-02-2003 23:14

now that i think about it

why do we even need to change the name? there really is no reason to. it's not hurting anyone, is it? if anything, we should change some of the posts that go in here. we could kind of keep the not so important or "stupid" as some people may call it, ones out.

HolyMasamune 20-02-2003 23:54

We should have a "rumor mill" for the important rumors and a "rumor drill press" for the less important rumors :P
